Funk?

It sounds okay. When ppl say "funk" I think of syncopation and off beat rhythms. For your track, I can hear you stuck to play safe because you played mainly on the beat. Its a nice try though.

Try using a compressor... it will help even out the notes even more and get that funky vibe.

This is turning in to IRC. How come your friends never seem to give any serious comments? :lol:
 
good effort.. but it's quite rushed.
but would be even better if u slow things down, and really lay in the groove. try to pay more attention to accents + note lengths.
 
hmm...to me, funk is generally a groove...mostly 16 beats and stuff... not exactly off-beat lah I think....but anyway, I think the thing I played was a bit off-beat? I dunno lah, I know nuts about funk..haha, I simply tried to clone what Tomo was demo-ing in his clinic sample vid... :D


about the irc thing...aiyah, friends ma...they know I can't really make it...say that to disturb only... anyway, it's a form of support I guess...since nobody else bother to make comments :D

You did play some offbeat stuff.. the inbetween notes of the strumming.. but try to fall off the beat, esp at the begining of the bars. Like..

1 * 2 3 4

*accent here

And vary it.. it brings out the groove enough more. I mean, when you say groove, I can think that techno = groove.. just a solid 4/4 time with good bass pulsating along, all the way. But when you come to funk, man! Its gotta be more than that! Syncopation!

Tomo's instructional has been highly raved on TGP. ;)

And if you are really going into funk, a compressor will be quite essnetial.

I do have a CS-3 lyin' around...just that no extra cable........... nor 9v battery..... :\

Dude nice playing, I loved the grooving. Sounds a little rusty and perhaps a little rushed, but we all get excited when we discover something new. ;)

But honestly lah I really liked what you recorded, always wanted to learn some funky strumming too. Perhaps you can check out the CAGED system for inspiration on movable 3 string chords, slip and slide them around while doing some muting and syncopation!

sounded pretty funky to me...

you could try to rake across more strings... say 4-5 or even all 6strings muted for a more percussive and also more impressive "chucka chuck" it sounded like you were concentrating more on the treble strings... will sound thinner and hyper active this way.

tomo rules man ... his slap guitar is lagi scary... up to now still cant get it man...
