Fulltone OCD

Hi, I've heard numerous feedback on the Fulltone OCD, seems like many are using it and it seems like a good pedal to gas. However, can anyone enlighten me what this pedal is all about, I mean how does it stand out from other overdrive pedals. The website just gives some vague description about being able to sound like this and that, which doesn't help me at all. Anyone own it, care to share what this pedal is capable of doing, and what you're doing with it?

Thanks

i suggest you give it a try at ebenex, i own one and i like it a lot. but sometimes i feel that theres too much bass though.

indeed - there is no substitute for trying one out at the store to see if it fits your musical needs but for what it's worth I use mine in conjunction with my THD uni head. I set the amp to be just on the verge of breakup then I use the OCD into it. It gives a fat singing distortion (Dist set at 3 O'clock, Tone at 5) with a lot of body and sustain. It's warm and thick. I use it for a lead sound with a compressor in front of it. At this setting, it doesn't do it for me as a rhythm sound (I'm sure it could though) as low chords and 5ths sound a bit murky and bassy, but that is not what I bought it for. I bought it as a lead overdrive and I love it.

I don't think it's based on another circuit such as a TubeScreamer and believe it to be an original design, but what do I know...

From what I read from the website, its said to emulate amp overdrive sounds. I play through a mixer board, using a preamp pedal in my line. So logically speaking, I should put it just before the preamp pedal in my line to emulate the connection like it is playing through an amp?

What are the characteristics of this pedal?

Thinking of getting either an OCD or a BB Preamp. Want to use it when coming in for leads, to provide a slight boost and more crunch and sustain in my dist.

In that case I think you'd like the BB preamp more because of its wider range of controls.

The OCD is a good pedal to have last in line of the drives. It is most "amp-like"

yeah the OCD is pretty transparent too, at least compared to a tubescreamer. i think it has that same type of clipping as a RAT, but dont quote me on that. it can get a pretty ballsy marshall type sound on a tube amp, on my old SS amp it sounded pretty bad.

just so you get an idea on how diff people use theirs, i use mine with a strat and a compressor after the OCD into a valbee (not the best of tube amps). similar to vernplum, mostly for leads or bassy and thicker type rhythms, although the brightness and treble from my strat doesnt make it feel sound so muddy. really nice harmonics too.

OCD is some sort of a variation of SD1/TS9. Randolf did explain a few things in the past which i forgot liao.

I've tried the OCD. it's a bit too dense sounding for my liking. while it's good that your power chords now sound like they're in tune, it's too smooth. not raw enough. Reminds me of an EQ-ed MT2.

One of my fav OD pedals i have played. Has two modes the HP and LP. The HP is higher gain, louder and has more bass. The LP is lower gain, more clarity and fairly neutral soundin cept for the boost in presence, which makes the LP mode my favorite for a solo boost. Dime the volume, lower the gain.

Stand alone wise, the new v3 is pretty gainy. It does have a lil kinda scooped sound to it for an OD pedal. Which is probably why it got the MT-2 reference in there. Don't let that scare you off if your not a fan of the mt-2, the OCD is a really good medium-high gain overdrive and very good boosting capabilities. Ver.3 to me is the best of the bunch.

brandon, you should post the vid clip where you were playing w your LP..the one I really liked. I'm assuming that was using the OCD?

be sure to try out the Obsessive compulsive distortion pedal with the TS9! haha they were made for each other hah! i tried the two out together at ebenex and was blown away but no $$$ :smt010

hmm, what pedal is raw enuff? scouting around for one now that is really raw and gritty on chords yet is full of presence, got any recommendations? thought the ocd would have done that but yea it is a lil too bassy and smooth voiced
