I bought this guitar from Swee Lee in the 80s. At that time, Fender was just introducing their MIJ instruments, and this one is a re-issue of the 62 Custom model. It features an alder body in sunburst finish, and a solid maple neck. When I tried this guitar, I was stunned by the top notch build quality on it, and when we plugged it in, w were even more impressed. Comparing at Swee Lee directly between this guitar and the Mexican and American made Fenders, this Fender Japan played better, looked better, and was better built than those. Since I bought this guitar, it has remained one of the best teles I have ever played, and I have kept this one in tremendous condition. Guitar is faultless throughout, and the only thing to note is some tarnishing and corrosion on the metal parts, which is entirely normal for a Fender of this age. Other than that it is pretty perfect.
Nowadays, it is known and accepted that the MIJ Fenders of the 80s were among the best teles ever made. If you look into Ebay, you might find one in good condition selling for $1400 more, as in this listing :
