fretwear

Well, it takes years to wear down frets. It doesn't happen overnight, even with intensive playing like touring with only 1 guitar... it takes more than a yr to wear it out!

I don't htink you should be bothered abt fretwear. It will come.

You can try steel frets, harder than the standard nickle alloys.. but its very very hard to work with and well, if there is a ding on a steel fret (i.e. guitar fell) , that fret will have to be replaced, the ding cannot be buffed out. Anywya, steel frets have a different tone... some like it, some don't,

A refret doesn't cost the world man... a couple hundred? :) Save it up over a couple of mths, work hard, bread and water if need be...

if you love your axe, you'll do that.

i mean,refret costs like,$20/fret...n let's say u hav a pretty gd ax tt's pretty cheap(i.e. Ibanez GRG-270,CORT X-2,X-6) n the frets r worn out...
wud u rather get a refret done or get a new guitar?

one thing abt instruments that lay people will never understand.

They may be pieces of wood (or metal) put together and it just makes some noise... they may be cheap...

But they can often be much more than that to the player who owns it... the instruments develope a bond with the player.

If thats the case with your cheapo axe, you would fork out the dough.

it really depend on how much you treasure this guitar.

well, if it doesn't worth that much to you and you still wanna do the refret, i am sure there are techs out there who will charge much cheaper than $20, but of course don't expect much from it also lah.

if you love the guitar, there's nothing stopping you to refret a cheap guitar. Yes you can buy a new guitar with the same amount of money, but it doesn't guarantee you getting a guitar that you like, feel wise and tone wise.
