free recording software

if ur on MAC/Solaris/Linux then Ardour provides a more professional base free of charge :) If not then Audacity is the next best thing..

Hi, I just downloaded Audacity software. I got a question. How do I do a recording with my guitar? Im using a laptop for this program. How do I input the sound to it? The guitar jack is bigger than my laptop jack. Any advice please?

RyanZ, are you using any multi-efx or stompbox? you need a 1/4 inch to 1/8 inch adaptor to connect to your laptop.

1/4 inch is your normal guitar connector. 1/8 inch is your laptop mic/line input.

you need the multi-efx/stompbox to boost the signal so that it is enough for the laptop.

if you have a guitar amp, you can use a computer microphone to mic up the guitar amp for recording too. those $10 computer mic can do wonders sometime. just need to balance the distance between the mic and the amp and the volume of your amp.

Im using a Zoom G1x. Can the Zoom G2.1U record directly into the pc since it has a USB port? Thanks

Lol...GarageBand is not free by right. It comes with the iLife package when you buy Apple's MacBook or PowerMac G5 etc.
