FREE Emu Proteus VX software

hi Cheeze,

Did you use it in Vista? I tried a few months ago, and it couldn't run in Vista. (In case you're wondering, the Vista machine I have is meant for testing audio apps, devices and everything else. I have a WinXP machine solely for music/audio work.) I didn't install in my WinXP cos it didn't work properly in Vista.

Using Vista 32bit. Haven't tried in 64 bit yet. I'm waiting for Kontakt to come up with their version 3.5 (64-bit version), then I'll install my 64-bit version Vista. I guess many plugins will stop working then... we'll see. Can't wait to use 8GB of RAM.

What didn't work for you? I didn't test it extensively. But installation no problem. Sounds are coming out without problems. Haven't tested to the max re: latency and RAM/CPU limitations.

If I remember correctly, ProteusVX did not install properly in my Vista, and it couldn't uninstall either. I tried re-downloading and reinstalling it, but no luck. I deleted the folder manually and did a System Restore. Are the sounds any good?

I tried Yellow Tools Independance Free too. That was some time ago, when it was first released, on my older XP machine. The sounds, IMO, were so-so. I felt the patches sounded common, comparable to Sonar/Edirol's TTS-1. And I didn't like the interface very much.

In the end, I uninstalled it to save space.

My copy installed flawlessly. Perhaps you should make sure that the DAW is dedicated for music - hence cleaner registry. It shouldn't matter though. Not sure why it wouldn't install on yours.

Independence Free is not worth it. I didn't even try it. That's because I'm not a fan of Yellow Tools, and I have Kontakt and Giga anyway. I do have their e-bass library in Giga format. But now I'm no longer going to use that either - as I have Scarbee's newer Kontakt library, which is far better than Yellow Tools' basses. But for those who had never tried any softsampler and had no libraries, it's may be worth it to "try".

I installed.. working perfectly when stand alone.. but in vst the program requires .fxb files when the presets are .exb. How do I fix it?
