Hey,

I hope this is the correct location to put this. If not, pls help me relocate this thread.. well my enquiry is this.. Im quite new with the floyd rose bridge so i hope you guys can help me along with this.. Thx

1. I play different tunings when jamming with my mates.. So is it possible to not lock ur neck when playing cause its very troublesome to unlock and change the tunings back and fourth. It sure takes alot of time.(Assuming i dun use the whammy bar) If that is possible, i have tried playing my guitar without screwing the neck but it goes out of tune all the time.. Which shop can i send my guitar to get it fixed, if possible?

2. I was jammin this afternoon but when i decided to change the tuning to drop C, my tuner cant detact wad tunnig was it and it went bezerk. Any idea what is the problem? Intonation? Strings not fit in properly? Help!

Basically, these are the two major problems dat im experiencing. Thanks for attending to this and i hope u guys can help me out. Thanks a mill!

i'll give it a shot,

1. you gotta block the bridge if you wanna play without the locking nut and still be able to change tunings. even if you dont whammy, without the locking nut, any bend you do will pull that guitar out of tune faster than you can say oh damn it, best possible way is to either block the trem using a piece of wood, or a tremlo-no ( or however u spell that) or just get a fixed bridge guitar altogether.

2. as to why your tuner cant detect what tuning it was, what guages of strings were you using? if they were .9's they'd go all flappy and not be able to be in any pitch at all. for dropping C usually folks use guages like .12 or .13s or so i hear. but then again, could be your floyed rose trem dropping into the body when you down tune which also makes for irritating pain de arse tuning.

hope it helps =)

Bro, you cannot tune a guitar with floyd rose like that. A setup is needed if you wanna change your tuning to drop C. Otherwise, the tunings of other strings will go haywire if you tune to drop C. You need to lock the nut of the guitar, which prevents the tuning heads from being used and holds the strings tight or you can get the Tremol-No or Freelok to lock the brigde. These are the troublesome and disadvantages of the Floyd Rose. Other than that, the whammy bar is fun to play with.

If you wanna regularly switch tunings, hardtail your Floyd Rose bridge... Tremolos + alternative tunings = berserk. I think this applies to tremolos in general.

assuming you don't use the whammy bar, sell your floyd rose guitar, buy a fixed bridged guitar.
