Fixing acoustic foam onto the wall

Hey, anyone with experience of acoustically treating their room? Can you share with me which glue you used to fix those foams onto the wall?

Thanks:)

A small tip :

Do not stick the foam directly to the wall. You will have a hell of a job scraping it off if ever you want to restore your room to original conditon.

Line your walls with 3-4mm thick plywood first. The panels can be cut to size by your plywood supplier and attached to the wall using concrete nails or the screw and plug method. The foam can then be stuck on the plywood using a good contact cement.

A little more effort but more professional.

hi,

you use the construction glue, it looks something like this.

you can find it easily at home fix if you cant find it anywhere else. You can get it cheaper if you buy at some $1 shop or miscellenious chapalan shop.

i remember the price per bottle is about $7. while i can get it cheap like $4 at chapalan shop.

1 bottle dont last you the whole room, need at least 5 bottles i think.

Then you also need the metal holder gun dispenser to dispense the glue from the bottle. cant find the pic online.

or a hot glue gun works too! they sell it at art friend. maybe you could also look around at daiso or spotlight! maybe they have it cheaper? haha! :)

Judging from the replies so far, there are not many DIY experts here.

What you are looking at is the average contact glue which is rubber based and thinner solvent. The glue must be spread thin and evenly fully on both surfaces to be stck together . A flat plastic spreader is sometimes suppled but can get from DIY shop. You do not squeeze the glue on without then spreading it out by hand...otherwise guaranteed it won't stick properly and airpockets will form.

When both glue surface are almostdry but still tacky, put the 2 surfaces together and apply some presure. The bond will be permanent.

BTW for this size of such a project do not buy the tube or cylinder type glue. Get the half gallon or gallon tin....far cheaperand easier to apply and spread. Youir DIY shop can advise on the best brand available for the job in hand.

Life is not about just playing drums....get your hands dirty some time.

For those of you who don't know better (and I suspect most of you don't)-- the type of foam panels you use for acoustic panelling do degrade with time and exposure to air, it if comes off on contact as a fine black dust/powder. Even the more expensive acoustical foams do that..it's only a matter of time.

That's why you gotta apply it on a plywood or any kind of board which is attached to the wall so that eventual removal is made easier.

Don't believe me and you will curse your ignorance by the huge mess (black dust everywhere etc ) when you ty to get it off directly off the wall.

Good luck.
