First MFX... Help!

Hi everyone,

I've just got my Line 6 Floor Pod. I usually avoid the complications of preset settings and usually switch it to work like an analog board. Thing is, I know how to switch delay and modulation on and off, but for the distortion, how do I switch from distortion to clean?

Any users of this MFX here? Maybe can offer me some help :)

Thanks in advance!
Eugene

you can either use 2 patches, one for clean, other with drive

or use the same patch, but altering the level of drive so that both have different levels of overdrive (adjust eq to taste)

my advise is to up the volume, then switch to the different presents you are planning to use, then adjust the volumes accordingly

why do it loud?
the changes in volume will become easier to detect, so you end up with a oops-i'm-too-loud/soft situation on stage or during live playing

normally you use the more clean sounds when the band is quiet and the mood is mellow, but you cant expect to stay at that volume while the rest of the band kicks in and drives the song right?

you could turn up a patch and use it as a solo sound as well, to 'cut thru the mix' and strut your stuff
the presets are there for you to adjust, most of them need some adjustments before they better too anyway, so feel free to experiment

The thing abt MFX is that a lot of tweaking is required to get that 'perfect tone'. Darf is right, use seperate patches for clean and drive, so as not to complicate matters. Each bank can contain for example 1 clean patch, 2 solo patches, 1 rhythm patch. U can standardize the cleans or vary them according to ur taste. I try to vary them to get more variety. I believe the Floor Pod uses the same system as my PodXT Live so if u follow these tips u shld be able to get ur dream tone. But using jus 1 patch as a single pedalboard, ur wasting time bcos there are other empty banks waiting to be zhnged. Another tip is to regulate volume. Diffrerent patches require different amounts of gain. Therefore, the volume knob is not an accurate indicator as say a distortion patch will sound louder than a clean patch at the same volume knob level bcos of the difference in gain. Therefore, set ur patches to the same volume; use ur ears to gauge. To increase the volume of everything, say u want to up the volumes of all the patches in the studio as compared to home, jus up the output knob at the back. No need to touch the volume knob and screw up all ur nicely regulated patches. Do these and u shld get quite a decent tone outta ur Floor Pod.

haha that's where the fun is!

you could leave the settings at default (note that this does not necessarily turning all the knobs to 12 oclock), then slowly turn them to see the sound gets affected

when i started out i spent quite abit of time figuring out the overdrive/distortion sounds
then i moved on to try analog pedals to see what was so great about them vs digital sounds...

it all went downhill from there :D :D

no i went from thinking of getting a mfx to splurging on effects, guitars, pickups just for the sake of 'tone'

oh yes. gas for the perfect tone is bad

Not if you skip boutique pedals :) I found my perfect distortion tone on my floor pod actually. Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier 1994 Tremoverb! As with most Line 6 effects, its not an expensive piece of equipment either...

But if you can easily afford it, why not :)
