Hey dudes, Im planning to get my first guitar soon (an electric one). Im now eyeing on a Fernandes RetroRocket Pro.

Anyone knows any store in Singapore that sells this model ?

And also, any suggestions on what amplifier or guitar i shld get first ?

Thanks a lot for helping a starter :D

i'd suggest a fender stratocaster, one guitar you can use forever... amps, try not to get those puny 15 watt ones, aim for a 100 watts or so ones...

the yamaha store at Plaza Singapura sell fernandes guitars. u might find it there.

The only dealer for Fernandes in Singapore is Yamaha now, as I last recall. But before you do in depth planning, I'd have some pointers for you.

- Local dealers do not carry stock on a whole range of any guitar brand, normally the more sellable ones only.

- Do not hop around the whole island shops asking for a particular brand. Likely brands are only tied to the main distributors/retailer only.

- Go thru the major "Music Hub" in Singapore, like bras basah, selegie and excelsior. Will cover majority of the models available.

- Do not rely on Net info, more likely you are taking a gamble to believe what you read.

- Always get someone seasoned to bring you along and show you the ropes.

Good luck on your quest. One last thing, always know where you stand, don't overstep your boundary, or you pay the price by buying a wrong expensive guitar and regretting later. Ask questions but not like a smart alex, shop keepers most of the time would be helpful and informative at the right situation.

yeap. i will like to play a little bit of jrock (eg. x japan)

seems that Fender Stratocaster is a good choice. will look into it :)

eh Mike thanks for the genuine advices. will take them into account!

as for AMP, still a little bit lost, any specific recommendations?

dont get those tiny 15 watt ones, go for a Fender reverb 65 watts or a nice 100 watt marshall, and i believe some here would recommand a cube30, but it all depends on your liking... Fender amps are good for clean... Marshall, either you like it, or you dont, cube30, its a digital modding amp... then again, if you're on a budget, those 15 watt ones will do fine, but you'll begin to hate them after awhile...

50 or 60 watts should be more than enough. Anything above 60 would be pretty overkill if you're gonna play at home (HDB Flat).

for amps, SMARVO!!! haha, pretty budget, and very nice clean channel, decent, or some might say so-so OD, but what the heck :D i got a 100w from mike, and i love it!

i think for starters, imho u can get a smarvo 2x10" 40W. its got ennuf power for small performances methinks, and it'll do well as a bedroom jammer's amp.

Peavey Bandit 112

$600+ bucks

80 watts

I can't believe a guy said to get 100 watts as a first amp. Speaker size is more important than wattage, get either a 10 or 12" speaker.

suggestions are very subjective, at the end of the day, you win by getting what you like to hear/ feel & using some of the prompts posted here wisely. try out as many guitars/ amps as possible & do not be afraid to embrace stuff which are less popular/ well known.

15W amps are puny in general but the Laney LC15R is one heck of a small amp.

fender strats are versatile, no doubt, but if you subject those single coils to high gain settings/ lots of distortion, you'll find the humming a put-off. of course, there are humbucking strats out there...

yeap.

i guess i will be getting a Fender Strat Highway 1 ( model no. 011-1100) and a Cube30.

Anyone knows how much the fender cost ? i heard its abt 1K at SweeLee.

Still have no idea abt the price of cube30.

ps: i will be playing mainly X Japan and Hide music.

if u getting a first guitar, why get a 1.4k one? get something cheaper than upgrade, once u feel that guitar is wat u want to play, wait if u decided to stop, it would be a waste man...

Quite true lar tany, but if hes commited, then it be good lar... Deathcubek, its only a suggestion... and not a firm one at that, i support him getting a 30 watter more if its a HDB so yeah...

u'd most probably wanna go for features instead of volume for an amp and btw, u'll need a 150w amp to get a volume twice as loud as a 15 watt amp...

usually, only high wattage amps have all the dood and daads but u maybe consider getting a 15 watt amp and get a chain of effects later as it'll be more useful to u next time u go jamming or gigging
