Fibre Broadband

If you are already using the new fibre broadband, is it really faster?

I am looking to upgrade my current Starhub cable. Don't know if it is worth the upgrade.

Internet is like the expressway(PIE/CTE,etc.)

How fast it can be still determines on the number of user in your area.

Plus depending on your target server (where the website is being hosted, US? Japan? Europe? Local?)

At the end of the day, look at your wallet first.
Singapore's internet infrastructure isn't really first-class anyways.
If you really think you need that access speed (eg for gamers like myself when a second of lag can cause a loss) then the upgrade may be worth it.

Latency != bandwidth

I am also interested to know actual specs, not the advertised specs. Might get fibre at my new place...

M1 has this $39 per month for Fibre 25Mbps. Anyone using it?

My Starhub cable is working well for me. But if the same price can give better results, I would consider switching over to fibre.

Hahaha, whoops. Depends on what "better" results you're looking at.
IMO if just for surfing net or streaming videos, etc. the speed your page loads won't improve significantly whether on fibre or cable. But if you're hosting a server on this connection, then thats another story all along, all the bandwidth stuff.

Faster, yes. But definitely not as fast as advertised.

Before this, i used normal broadband, which promised 5 or 10 mbps. But my actual internet speed was usually 1 or 1.5mbps.

Now, we have that fibre broadband which is advertised as 100 mbps. My speed nowadays is anywhere from 5mbps to 30 mbps, depending on how many other computers are connected in my house.

But none of the computers have ever seen internet speeds higher than 50 mbps.

It's the norm in Singapore. I have yet to see any ISPs really provide the speed they promise.

That seems reasonable. Its not just Singapore. They advertise a theoretical maximum, but how many servers will be pushing out 100mbps to you alone? None.

At any rate 20-30 would be very nice, thanks for the info.

you're welcome :)

whatever it is, i find life much more comfortable with this fibre broadband plan. i consider this a luxury and am very grateful to be able to enjoy it.

^^ what's the monthly fee for your plan? and how many computers were hooked up to the access point at the time?

i might just consider that company.
