FENDER question.

Where in Singapore I can find a original Fender guitars? I am talking about a store that sells/display more than 20 fenders guitars.

If you know one. let me know.

There aren't that many Fender models being offered here, majority available are the Strats, Tele variants. If you want Jaguars, Jazzmasters, Mustangs, Jagstangs, Toronados, Broncos, etc, you will have to go online shopping. You can try SV guitars, Music Theme, Swee Lee for your Fender quest locally.

Good luck!

If you are looking for Fender experts, head down to Guitar Connection. However if you just want to see more than 20 displayed Fenders, head down to Swee Lee.

Thank you all for your comments.

I am looking to replace my 2month old Washburn guitar. The single coils are a bit noisy.

I hope the fender guitars will do the job.

I was surprised by the Swee Lee prices. A standard strat is 1230 SGD on their site. while on the fender site it just about 699 USD.

Or did I miss something? Here are the link on the 2 sites:
http://sweelee.com.sg/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=1_17_23&products_id=957

and on the fender site:

Please enlighten me. :D

Swee Lee is the main distributor for Fender in Singapore. If you think their price is unreasonable, get your guitar from another store. The other stores are parallel importers hence they can only bring in a few models & not the full range.

Other stores that do carry Fender are Music Theme, Ranking Sports & SV.

Oh and btw, most single coil pickups are noisy. That's their nature.

Different shops have their own profit margins, so you'll have to figure out who is out to make money and who is out to make long-term customers. In this age of internet shopping, you don't have to be held ransom to ridiculous prices if you don't want to. :)

I would recommend you buy your guitars online :)
Haven't stepped into a local store for the longest time. they never have what i want anyways

Buying online tends to ensure the best prices but you might not get the best piece. A good set up is also required to make a difference.

Lets just say I want to buy a guitar online. Now the next question will be which trusted online guitar shop do you choose?

Most of these stores delivers only up to the US territory but you can barely found online stores that sells/ships to SG (correct me if i'm wrong)

Do you recommend a online guitar store that you have tried?

I've only ever bought 1 guitar online, and that's only because its a discontinued model. Rest of the usual Fender models can really be had easily in Singapore for very reasonable prices, IF you know where to look. The places mentioned in this thread will cover just about all your requirements for a Fender guitar purchase. However, if you wish to go online, eBay is a decent place to start. Just take note of their ratings and gauge how reliable they are. Ask them how much, how long shipping will take. From experience, shipping from USA is about 200-300 SGD, roughly 1 week. So, yeah, I would say try eBay because most shops list their stuff there anyway. You get buyer's protection on eBay too. Good luck!

I've bought from SweetWater, GearHounds and Drum City GuitarLand
you are able to pick and choose which guitar u want at SweetWater. and the service is excellent.

Setup wise, buy guitars from manufactures you trust, i.e. price range and such
Fender is definately not an issue, was refering to epiphones (then again, i wouldn't buy an epiphone )

I do my own setups so as long as you know what level of quality ur purchasing, ur good to go!

ANOTHER reason why I buy online, is because I don't want a grease ball guitar from off the racks here and poor maintainance.

End of the day, you still have to get your guitar setup after opening it from the box. what happens if the neck is out of shape due to climate change? no one can predict such things so you are taking a risk. I get paranoid at times but I just feel safer from buying from a store. at least if anything goes wrong, you can still go back to them.

Actually no. So far I've not needed to set-up the Guitars that I've bought from online stores. (not factory) and I do my own set-ups, too.
Like I said, buy guitars of Quality and KNOW what you're buying. I am way more paranoid than you AND way more picky, but I've never had issues with shipping or damages etc.

The guitars aren't cheap either and I now completely trust online shopping. Buying guitars that we will never find on our shores.
Buying at a store here..... just looking at the condition makes me miserable.....

Locally, if anything is 'wrong', don't buy it from the store in the first place? what would taking it back do? and like you, I've also sworn by buying guitars from stores here, more than 20. But that's all changed now.

Never had that issue before either. on and offline

Not to mention BGW guitars<3 , would he really Invest 10s of thousands of dollars selling ONLY exclusively shipped guitars if there would be a potential in making a HUGE loss from "not knowing what he's getting" or "QC". some business huh?

I don't mean to be rude but you don't even know me personally. If that is the case, how do you compare my paranoia with yours? Why did you want to compare in the first place? Is there something you'd like to prove?

I've seen my fair share of bad guitars. Warwick basses have a tendency to come with a twisted neck. Maton guitars ALWAYS have neck problems. These things are apparent. This is a fact. The possibility of receiving a guitar in bad shape may not be common but the possibility is not 0. No one can predict how wood would react to climate change. Just take a look at your local repair stores and see the amount of acoustic guitars that go there.

Some people don't really find a problem with the guitar until they fiddle around with it for a while. At a store they might miss out things like dead spots on the higher register cos they don't bend on every fret to check. If you have a fret that popped up, it's best to bring to a store cos it's not as easy is just using a hammer and banging it back to the slot. Guitar repairs are not always that straight forward as they seem. I've screwed up plenty of times to know back in my schooling days & I'm speaking from experience.

How would you know whether BGW doesn't encounter such problems? If they can do their own repairs, why not? Doing repairs takes time and money. That is the whole reason why shops can mark up their prices & people are still willing to pay.

You don't run a business, that's why you don't see things the way I do.
