Fender Pro Junior

just imho, a tube amp at low volume doesn't mean it is not going to sound good or that a tube amp cranked up is the best tone.

The idea of having a tube amp and must be played at loud volume seem to mislead most newbie that no point in buying a tube amp and playing at home. And the funny part is when anyone who might not have extend beyond practice amp comes along and said that it's pointless to get a tube amp for home usage because there is not way to turn up the volume for that "great" tone....

Playing a tube amp at low level, while might not be working the tube as hard, it will prolong the life of the tubes, the speaker cone and the components in the circuit board from overheating etc. So i guess there are good and bad also..and most importantly, the tone is not going to be as bad just because the tubes are not working hard.

just a 0.000002 cent..

hmmm... i dunno man... i tried the Fender Blues Jr before... in Swee Lee. When its soft.. I wouldn't say the tone is bad but its not as good as it would sound at a higher volume if you know what I mean. And I'm only talking abt the clean here... no overdriven tones yet. The cleans get more pristine and sparkling, when at a higher volume. And I could go above 1.5 because it was too loud in Swee lee.

And yeah, you have to crank up a tube amp in order to get that sweet tube overdrive... there's no other way besides having an attenuator. Thats part of why ppl get tube amps...

would it be too loud for home practice?

Hi there,

I have the pro junior in a typical HDB room so i guess i can add some comments.

It does sound nicer when it's loud and the best part of the amp is that it has very nice clean. There are only 2 knob on that amp -> vol and tone hence no distortion to talk about which is something i actually like.

I am able to control the loudness by setting a lower gain/vol thru my multi-effects. There are just some magix in those full tube amp as compared to a solid state or hybrid type amp, just love every bit of it.

No complains from neighbours yet :D

I have crappy Zoom 505

the blues junior have the added flexibility of an eq section, reverb and a 'fat' switched which bump-up a bit of ur lower mids. its got the master and volume setting so u can actually overdrive the amp without resorting to cranking it up to deafening volume. (police and neighbour might give u surprise visits there!) and its got a 12" speaker, so u get a fuller spec (better highs and lows) sound.

the pro junior only have a vol and tone knob. to get it overdriven, u have to crank it real loud to drive the tubes. if u manage to do that, u get a beautiful "just a little broken-up" overdriven sound. to clean that up (get a clean sound), just lower the vol of ur guitar and its back to clean! the tone knob is good in all its range for most playing. its equipt with a 10" speaker, so the sound tends to be more "middy", low mids and high mids, not full spec like a 12". but it tend to break-up easily and some might like it. i know i do!

both are 15watts by the way and uses the same set of tubes.

personally, i'll go for the pro junior becuase its funkier and i love the "simple lo-fi-ness" of the amp. try both man...

I brought the last piece of pro-junior at swee lee during the last fender sales! did not see anymore of either pro/blues junior around.

Infact i was looking for the blues junior initially but they have no stock and according to Adam (swee lee staff), the pro junior sounded better and i was kind of 'desperate' for a tube amp, the price, the sales and time was right then...

hmm...maybe can arrange for try at my place if u really want to. PM me for details.

Mew, nebu,
The pro junior is listed at $840 before discount, that was the last price i saw on my pro junior. for updated price, swee lee will be more appropriate to answer.

Thats really kind of you riff... I rem I ran my TRI AC thru the Pro Junior in Swee lee last time.. and man... I LOVED IT! The Pro Junior had a distinct effect on the TRI AC's tone... sort of making it more chimey and clearer. However, heh... I didn't consider getting it because the good guys at tech21 recommended against it.
