Fender Neck.....

since we're on this topic...what are the main things to look out for if we want to buy a fender guit to make sure its original. i mean, it aint possible to check the neck joint area right? my friend once bought a fender where the logo on the headstock looks decal-ed on, the person explain that he replaced the neck some time ago. how do we know if the body is also from fender? and not some cheapo copy...

but then again, i agree with the fact that even if the thing isnt original, as long as it sounds good its a good buy. i thought my friend made a good choice in buying that guitar. but still think that its very bad if owners pass of fakes (lets say fender neck and cheapo copy body) as originals.

If you concern about the originality,
take down the serial number. And check over the internet if it's really fender product (there's a lot of resource on the net. You will be able to know it's production year. If you decide to send the number to fender customer service, they can even nail down to the color of the guitar!)

I would suggest not to touch it if it doesn't come with any serial number, if your concern is originality.

If you only care about the playability and the tone, you can ignore all those I wrote above. If this is your concern, even if it's a no brand guitar, you shouldn't mind to pay good price for it if you can find a great one 8)

haha in that case then i guess my friends one is....
the serial no. is a blotched patch. but if i were him i would also have bought it, sounded really good.
but i mean, its quite sad for pple to sell it as a real fender.

Hmm

But many copies nowadays sound jus as good. I mean if one aint good in hearing for certain trademark sounds, then one might just as well settle for a copy axe bec ito, if it sound good = its good.

What if a TGM can sound like a Squier & paid e price of a Squier on a TGM axe? Won't it be tragical?

Hey neuro,

I think ur abit off... haha'
I have visited GC before and talked to them about replacement parts. They do not pass it off as original fender parts. They even told me its from ALLPARTS. However it looks alittle blank on the headstock so they can put the fender decal if the customer request for it.

UNDERSTAND??? its not anything about illegal or not... Its just pasting a sticker to make it cosmetically nicer.

And its easy to see if the fender thing is a decal or not. The decals one have this things on the edge. If u can find a non-fender neck that the decal doesnt look like the decal but an original thing then good for u la.

Anyway, if ur not a noob, u wont be con and wont perceive things in that manner.

a strat is a strat is a strat.

once you have the shape and the correct woods, you'll get the ballpark sound. (not that many strats sound exactly the same anyway)

just read the threads on fender forum, gear page, etc. many of them are doing wild crazy guitar creations as well as building their own replicas and sticking on fender decals.

sure its not legal but who cares? fender isnt gonna knock down your door and arrest you, and everyone who builds warmoth or usacg guitars know that.

in fact very often i find that warmoth guitars often sound better than anything put out by fender (as long as you know what you're doing) bec you are putting exactly what you like in a guitar.
and it'll cost cheaper.

i could never get my configuration from any fender guitar.
its like saying that spitting in public is bad, but we all do it from time to time.

so dun worry whether it is a fender neck or not. as long as it feels, sounds and looks good, it'll be worth ten times the price than a fender neck that you actually overpaid for, but you're not happy with the frets, neck carve, radius, etc, etc...

Tragic for Fender and Squier, not for TGM. Or the consumers, of course. 8)

*uGh*

hullabalooeeks: i tink u haven read all of my previous post zzz.. maybe read 1st den u pass ur judgement?

realli ignts :?

How can it be tragical?
If TGM makes better guitars than Squier, Squier will buck up and make better guitars, resulting in more choices for consumers at similar prices. 8)
Use "bwg" lah... Bo Wei Gong.... :P

Erm

But consumers end up paying more mah.. Somemore I so cheapo, pay less $$ but wan to get good quality axes :)

*Lolx*

"BWG" rite?

You pay more for better stuff. What's wrong with that. You should be ashamed if you want something good for cheaper. The world does not work that way. 'One cent of money, one cent of goods', you pay for what you get, you get what you pay for.

And on the topic, I think the thread starter has his questions answered already, shall we stop bombarding and let this thread die?

neuro: i've read the 5 pages in this thread before replying.
For goodness sake the necks sold at GC has a ALLPARTS logo attach to it on the headstock. If u cannot see that, then the neck heel also has the allparts thing. So its an ALLPARTS.

So about it being legal or not to paste a fender decal, thats absolutely based on the discretion of the customer. Its just like doing a favour for the customer. If it were me, i would also choose to put a fender decal. After all thats a stratocaster, a shape synonymous to fender.

I mean Fender cant possibly come to ur house and take away the guitar right? About comparing a TGM to a Squire, i dun really understand wad ur trying to say, but i've tried TGMs which plays better than a Squire.

About paying more for a neck which is a fender copy but not a FENDER itself is nothing wrong if the specs can justify itself. Often i feel the original fender necks have something missing. Those ALLPARTS and WARMOTH offers custom specs for demanding guitarist.

Last note, GC does not pass of ALLPARTS necks as Fender. Remember that.
No hard feelings on that one. Just feel that neuro, u gotta understand better b4 u make a comment
