Fender MIM Standard Telecaster vs Epiphone LP Custom

Hey guys, wonder if you guys could share some opinions or experiences with regards to the above topic as I am facing a huge dilemma when deciding which guitar to go for as my first electric.

I am also open to any other widely known brands or models. And open to any other suggestion regarding on where the guitar is made (would it be better if it's MIJ than MIM?).

Im into alternative rock, indie-pop, electro-pop, brit-pop and experimental rock. Some bands I listen to and adore include Radiohead, Supergrass, Mogwai, Fujiya & Miyagi, RHCP and Snow Patrol (before the Chasing Cars era).

Oh yeah, my budget of $800 to $1000 is set. The cheaper the guitar, the better coz I was thinking of getting a Vox or Orange amp to go along with it. Hope you guys can shed some light on this! Help!

Thanks! :p

tell us why you narrow things down to these 2 guitars so that we can be objective in our say.

you can also refer to the review section for further probing.

i like the warm and fat tone of an epiphone; thus if i play rhythm, it has that power and clearness but it lacks the edge and crunchiness of a fender tele. im going for that alternative radiohead and snow patrol tone and that edginess when they do their riffs (think Paranoid Android by Radiohead and A Clock Is Ticking, if im not wrong, by Snow Patrol). I see that many alternative artists uses a Fender 72 Tele Deluxe, but that costs a bomb! Yet, it should be perfect for me; humbuckers on a tele...so these two are the only ones i can afford right now...:D

its really up to you.these 2 guitars are rather different-shape,weight,sound,tone,colour.and it will be abit hard if your budget includes the amp.almost impossible, unless you want a used guitar

aww man..... really? the fender standard teles are that expensive? have to consider second hand ones i guess...

the Epi LP & Fender Tele are guitars serving different needs. the Epi has its inclinations for bottom end boom while the tele aould please players looking for that single coil honky snaps. if you play lots of overdrive/ distortion, consider a humbucking option.

my friend got his epi les paul custom for around $900.im not too sure about fenders as im not into it.but its not gonna be any lot cheaper than the lp.agree with sub for the single coil stuff, are you looking for single coil or humbuckers in your guitar?

Here's what I suggest: HUNT for a Strat with a swimming pool route. Then you can shoose to have humbuckers or single coils depending on your fancy. OR you can have SSH configurations.

Most people forget that this is the beauty of the Strat design. You can have either combination you want... AND you don't need another guitar to get it...

hello Djzee!

it is possible to get the a serving with both worlds!

The '72 custom tele should do fine. You have got your tele bridge pup and humbucker in the neck.

Well from what i know , the newer MIMs are getting better and better. So if you like it , by all means go ahead and get one. After which you could mod and personalise it anyway you want. Ie. swapping of stock tuners to GOTOH tuners from Zen GuitarWerks.

hope that helps :D

i used to... until my ears were better tweaked over time and i realised the bassy-ness i loved is actually pure mud.
so now i use my bridge, but tweak my tone knob to taste as well.
it may still be mud to you though!

single coils have that sparkle that you cant get from humbuckers.

I find that singles tend to have more clarity too, despite a lack of power.....
