Fender Highway One Strat?

I have one of these - post 07 upgrade models.

I really like it alot, more so than a number of AM standard or deluxe numbers. The 70s headstock appeals and it's got an excellent neck / frets which is very comfortable. The thin nitrate coating makes it really resonant and loud acoustically.

Having said that, the neck is not a fat C profile if that's a concern of yours - it's definitely in the middle, not too fat nor thin. Also, I don't think the original pickups are any good. This is a great guitar to soup up - changed the pickups (Suhr V60LPs), bridge/trem block (Callaham), nut (Tusq) and tuners (Fender locking) and now it hangs with the best of them.

Hey man, 1.5k can get you the American standard strats. Those are as good as you need to go.
Try paying Swee Lee a visit and show them that you're serious on buying and ask them for a discount. The final price for one there should be 1.5k .

Sorry for hijacking but...i was wondering what the differences is between highway one, AM and the normal tele/strats. other than pickups.

^ the price. the Standard tele/strat are made in Mexico. the American Standard tele/strat are made in America. Highway1 is made in America and has a nitro finish...

not entirely true, the H1 strats are actually. if im not wrong, made in mex, but final assembly is in the states.

I might be wrong, but nitro can't be sprayed on in the corona cali facility due to some environmental hazard reasons iirc.

H1 strats are decent guitars, but IMO the MIA standard strats are better, unless of course you have a lemon. the new upgraded mim strats are also pretty good.

yeah man.. everyone seems to have a different say on the orgins of the h1 strat. i dont care. so long as they are sweet guitars its cool.

anyway. u should look that the mim classic 50s.. they are good for their price. but, with a budget of 1.5k go for the american standards

It doesn't matter where the origin of H1 strat. It's superb. Period.

Even my so called original US tele is probably assembled by illegal chinese or mexican immigrant in US factory :D

My take is that if I could get an H1, with pickups and caps upgraded to my favourites, for $1.5k or less - I'd take that over the Am Standard. It's just personal preference based on aesthetics and my preference for nitro finishes; also the fact that I'm not a huge fan of stock Fender pickups in general, including those on the Am Standard.

Either way you can't really go wrong. The new Am Standards are undoubtedly lovely guitars, I reckon the fretwork is better than the H1 (some frets on my H1 were coated with a thin layer of transparent stuff which I had to scrape and chip away at and it'd fall away in tiny slivers - the one flaw in an otherwise excellent guitar. I have not noticed this in other H1s I've played). Go with whatever you like best, reagardless of origin. If it looks feels plays and sounds right to you, that's the one, no matter what others think.

Yup... One of my fav strats is made in god knows where (WD neck and Warmoth body), and well put together right here in Singapore, costing about the price of the H1.

The H1 is a killer value for money strat.

Try a Roadworn Strat? Pretty good reviews so far. Looks good too.

Thanks man... Though, I don't like old beat up looking guitar ;)

here are now my options

1. Fender 60's Classic Player MIM
2. Fender 50's Classic Player MIM
3. Highway One Strat MIA (?)

What do you guys think?

What can you say about made in Mexico guitars?

hahah then u might not want a H1 strat. nitro finish relics with age, but naturally as you play it on and on..

mexican standard fenders are generally okay.. i swapped my pickups out cos they were quite badly microphonic, it couldnt leave the house cos of that. pots and caps could be swapped too..

most importantly, change the wimpy puny trem block! it just wont do..

if you know what kinda guitar u're looking for, and you have luck getting a good piece, a few upgrades and it'll be a superb guitar. ;)

the classic player strats are great man. im playing a friend's one right now. its made to look vintage but has pretty modern specs like a 9.5radius fretboard.. has a soft V neck that might be a love/hate to you. try it out:)

Oh man... this is really killin me... I'm getting confused everyday. I like both CP60s and HW1! lol!

I'm just curious, is there a re-sale value with Made in Mex guitars compared to CIJ (Fender 72 which I temporarily have)

I mean is it like MIA > MIJ/ CIJ > MIM > MIK > MIC ?
