you don't understand.

all your bass are belong to me.

You'll have to tear them away from my lifeless hands, bro.....it's a dream come true for me, and I promised my friend that I would take good care of this baby, never to sell it or give it away.... 8)

hahahah just click on our link to find out doode :)

Haha.....death metal's cool....I listen to In Flames and power metal. I'm more interested in older school metal, like Iron Maiden, which I used to play.

Now play more funk and rock and roll lah. Getting old. :P

heh..how did a thread about nice Fender basses become one about metal?

Very nice '74 fender there. Am itching for a 70's fendr at the moment as well but they aren't exactly spilling off the streets in large quantities.

They're hard to find, and frankly speaking, hard to maintain, as the fit and finish of 70's Fenders aren't that fantastic. It was a turbulent period in Fender history.

For example, my '74 sounds great, but the routings for the pickups are huge as compared to earlier examples from the '60s or later examples from the '80s. The three-bolt neck plate looks great, but has the tendency to loosen with age too. Mine is a little loose, but a little nudge will put it back in place. Quite a lot of things to live with, frankly.

If you can get hold of late '70s Jazz Basses with the four-bolt neck plates, or even the earlier '60s ones....those are the ones that I'm hankering for, but can't afford.... :(

Heh, if you want it, you have to maintain it.... I had the good fortune to try a variety of fenders ranging from the '60s, '70s as well as super high end Fender custom Jazz bass stuff (now those are soimething.... at bloody $6-8k a piece)

I agree that the '60s stuff really rocks. The early '80s had some really cool Japanese made Jazz basses too. Apparently collectable now. But i dun agree with the price tags to be very honest.

But heh, who am I to comment? I still swear by Gibons and Rickies. =p

Might be worth trying out this make of Jazz basses by this Jap brand called Atelier...apparently they rock... me? i am still trying to get hold of one to try. same with the Mike Lull basses. =)

Personally tried quite a few boutique basses so far...(my friend runs a guitar repair shop), but personally can't figure out how to use them!

At the end of the day, I've ended up an old school, plug and play player. Just give me a passive bass, and a good amp, and I'm done.

Even my only active bass, the Red one loaded with EMGs is wired like a passive, with three volume knobs and a master tone knob, cos I'm an idiot with controls

Hey babe, I understand that feeling! hahaha, tht's why i stick to Gibson T-birds... plug and play plus only three knobs, even an idiot like me can figure them out!! haha. but hey man, at the end of the day, as long the bass gives solid tone, we don't need too much lah.

Absolutely! I used to own a '65 - '66 Gibson Thunderbird, non-reversed, but couldn't handle the sound....I was too used to the Fender sound....so I've ended up back with my Jazz Basses.

Oh yes, I also found out that it was next to impossible to slap on Gibsons.

They do have this amazingly round tone....lots of bottom end and warm mids. Great stuff, the Thunderbirds!

Wah the non-reversed birds are a beauty man! you din sell that to Melvin by any chance did ya???

But T-birds can slap lah..... bu the sound not quite there only hahahaha

But yeah, for me is the other way ard, not that used to Fender sound, but I would still like one I am comfy with just to keep in my overall collection. It prob won't see much action though!

Nah, didn't sell it yo Melvin.

It was a non-reversed, with a single pickup. Real beauty.

maybe a sidetrack, but i read much about ppl on talkbass taking SX basses and modding them to become like Fenders. what do you guys think of this?

actually SX basses are quite decent really, a pickup change and maybe a good setup and they can actually sound better than a fender p/j. good woods and somewhat quality construction help

i got myself a 2nd hand MIJ Fender Jazz for around $750...checked on fender's site and it was made in 1991.. had to repolish everythin, frets, bridge, tuning heads, fretboard.... but looks gr8 now
