fast downstrokes?

I'm kinda n00bish at this, but how fast can guitarists do downstroke picking?

The fastest I've seen is Slipknot's guitarists at Line 6 http://www.line6.com/spiderii/movies.html

is that considered fast?

Yup, I guess James Hetfield is the king of downstroke riffing. Even Dimebag Darrell admited he couldn't downstroke as fast as Hetfield, in a guitar magazine I once read. Dimebag is more about groove and power -- a vulgar display of power... rest in peace \m/....

wow! i've seen the video, damn fast. i realised that most heavy metal type of guitarist are able to do that.. mayb they wheck off alot? lol .
I tink its all in the right hand. Dun use your arm to fast downstroke but use your wrist instead. Don't flex ur arm, just relax, you'll b able to do it.
