Falsetto

But no, falsetto is a term used only for male voices, especially tenors. You can check that up in a musical dictionary..

The term for males singing in falsetto is called counter- tenor....

yep that was mentioned sometime ago.

A counter tenors are singers(usually a low, bass or baritone) who trained his falsetto to the strength and vocal power of a real, full voice. However, this is a rather rare class of singers and are not commonly found.

However, counter-tenors aren't the only ones who sing in falsetto. Male voices of all ranges sing in falsetto, depending on the song's requirements. I sing in falsetto about 10% of the time or in semi-falsetto or head voice. Most of the time, we try to sing in our falsetto peaks which is the range that our falsetto is the strongest, it's normally just above your real voice range. That's the natural, strong range of falsetto that we have without training like counter-tenors do.

Another use of falsetto is to "mark" your voice. I'm not sure if I got that word right, but basically it's to bybass throat tension. When singers are preparing for a concert or having a sore throat, we cannot sing out that much. So to hit high notes that requires alot of technique, we use falsetto which is much easier to sing during rehearsal. The tone is crap but at least we don't damage our voice by over singing.

hope that clears the confusion, :D

counter tenors are not that rare... in european countries there are about 2 choirs all counter- tenors and they sing much more beautifully compared to soprano 1...

2 in the whole of europe? I don't if that's what you mean, but that would be quite rare.

but still, relative to tenors and basses, counter-tenors are less easily found. but I get your point.

yes females CAN sing falsetto, you just dont notice it cos a females normal voice is quite high already! If you dont call it falsetto what can you call it cos head voice is somting different!

my guess is that would be the whistle register

Yes, I believe so. The Darkness does it too, like in I Believe in a Thing Called Love.

Somehow I feel guys sing falsetto nicer than girls. Maybe its just me. =\

falsetto

i think girls do sing falsetto...i can swear tt india.arie sings falsetto in "i am ready for love" n whitney houstan in "i will always love you"...i could be wrong tho...can someone correct me if im wrong...btw,if u wanna listen to some REALLY good falsetto, take a listen to musiq soulchild..in my opinion, one of the best singers in the world

It's a technique... but I'd rather hear full out in your face power with the high notes...now dats something...

Mariah Carey on her earlier songs with crazy glassy highs should definitely be falsetto.

it does sound like a falsetto does it?
but she uses the "falsetto" with her head voice.
so i'm not sure whether her high ranges are falsetto per se...

unless you're referring to her superhigh parts; which surprisingly isn't falsetto either
she uses a very well-founded whistle register
diff part of the cords vibrating
