Falsetto

What exactly is it? I know Robert Plant doesn't do Falseto (I think). David Lee Roth does. Ian Gillan does. But... what is it?

Listen to King Diamond or Mercyful fate. All the way he uses falsetto. A good example. 8)

freddie mercury is a classic example of a singer who uses alot of falsetto (especially in the earlier days.. )
for example in bohemian rhapsody:


"mama, life has JUST BEGUN,,, BUT NOW IVE GONE AND THROWN IT all away"
the capital lettered words are all falsetto (in the original album version that is)

ohhh and ofcourse the BEE GEES


falsetto is a way of singing, where only parts of the vocal cords are used i think. a kind of sweet, soft, mellow tone

If I'm not wrong it's used in Coldplay's Yellow too. The part where he goes:

You can go into falsetto quite easily, but maintaining the right pitch and getting it to sound nice is hard. IMO it's very easy to go offkey when singing falsetto.......

vibrato is also kinda harder with falsetto cuz its a different way of singing so at first might be kinda hard, but ull get used to it fast

hi rotlung! falsetto is the treble range produced by most adult male singers. patience and practise is needed to develop this and may take months if not years to develop a "strengthened falsetto".

Figured. I think I know what you're talking about. Seems like most males are able to pull off a falsetto, though it is uncontrolled, unstrengthened and almost 'un-toned'. Right?

nope... it is not no tone...

males are able to sing it better than females using falsetto for higher notes, thats a known fact...

whether it is easier to go off- key depends on the person itself, but thbe person must be able to control his breath and diaphragm well...


Bee gees are very nasal, pop singing, not a very good example...
coldplay, that is more of a technique....

if you want to, there is a group of all male counter- tenor choir where they sing only in falsetto... very good...


counter- tenor is a part in a choir though not very common where males sing above their normal range....

Falsetto is a term used for male voice only.

When voice is not properly trained it can sound weak, fragile and pale. Proper breath support and ability to adjust the tension of the vocal folds will give you a strengthened falsetto.

hey listen to a power metal band called DragonForce. Or just listen to any Power Metal band n tell me if thtz considered falsetto. Coz uptil now i am without a word to describe tht kind of vocals rather than just "high-pitch".

If you are doing that high pitch sound/tone that you are talking about, that means you are using your head voice.
