F-Spaced?

Hey guys, need some help here.
Would non F-spaced pups work on Fender and Fender style guitars? Swimming pool route so no drilling and such required. Looks not so important, as long as it works.
And is there anything i have to watch out for?

Yup, they work well...I put a standard Gibson spaced Duncan Custom Custom on my Strat before...the strings do not line up exactly with the pole pieces but works well for me

Since the strings don't line up exactly, would the sound be different (ie F-spaced and non F-spaced of the same pickup)?

the difference would show on a recording monitor but not notable to the human ears (at least for the majority of us). it's the same effect as not having the mouth exactly over the microphone while singing.
