External Trigger Connections

lets say i have a Midi Footswitch, Modulation FX, and a Mesa Boogie roadking

How do i hook up these 3 things together? The Modulation FX should be connected thru FX loop rite?
How to use the Road King as part of a Midi rig where all sounds are called up via the Midi Footswitch and both amplifier and Modulation FX settings are stored under a midi program number? ...i mean u set the amp and mod fx settings first then u store under a midi program number on the Midi Footswitch. then change the settings on the amp and Mod FX, then store again on the footswitch..repeat the steps on and on till i achieve my desired number of presets...is this possible? i dont understand how it works...

what is pulse and latching trigger? u know at the back of mesa roadking got this Ext Triggers..one is Pulse and the other is Latching..care to enlighten anyone?

thankss

Wow! And you are still waiting for one?

One question to ask you: Which modulation fx are you using? Which Midi footswitch are you using? And have you tried asking this question at the Guitar section? They would be more familiar with the features of the amp and fx.

I am looking at the Mesa Boogie Roadking over the internet. It looks like a tube driven ANALOG amp, which can be triggered by its own optional footswitch.

If that is true, then the answer to your question is no. Your MIDI footswitch might not be able to trigger anything on the Mesa Boogie cos midi footswitch can only be to programme midi devices or midi supported devices.

Now you are looking to add a modulation fx into the chain, which is again very much dependant on the fact that whether or not it is midi supported. Even if the fx is midi supported, if the amp is not, then the footswitch can only trigger the fx.

Of course, there is the issue of compatibility even if both amp and fx is midi trigg-able.

i seem to have missed this one..maybe you should've posted in the guitar forum ;)

assuming you're talking about a rackmounted modulation FX unit, yes hook it up through the effects loop. series or parallel is up to your own taste.

for what you're trying to achieve (channel switching on the road king and patch switching on the FX), you'll need a midi floorboard WITH relay switches, something like the behringer FCB1010.

the roadking is a 4 channel amp if i my memory serves me, but the behringer only has 2 relay switches. you'll need one with 4 relays to switch between all your channels. theres other MIDI boards with more relays but they're all pretty damn expensive..ground control is one, theres a blue stepped rocktron one as well i think.

a relay switch is basically a simple 1/4" mono jack that turns things on or off. Latching is when you hit once, its on and stays on, hit again, turns off stays off. Pulse would be a momentary thing (stays on for the duration the switch is pressed), but i've never seen such a jack on a mesa boogie before..you might want to check that.

basically what you'd want to do is connect the MIDI ins/outs of the FX and pedalboard, and the relay switches from the pedalboard to the amp.
in the case of the behringer you can program MIDI patch changes and relay settings (on/off) for each different patch.

in short, if you really want full control and flexible switching you'll need to shell out some pretty major money for a full control system, at least a grand. personally i'd keep using the regular mesa footswitch and just tap an extra pedal or two to engage the FX...

THOA:
It looks like a tube driven ANALOG amp
doesnt matter whether its analog or not, amps can still be controlled via MIDI (eg triaxis, engl SE etc)

oh and what compatability are you talking about between amp and fx?

Oh I didn't know that,. Thanks for clearing it up.

And it's not acompatibility between fx and amp. It's the midi controller iI was talking about. But since you said that the amps can be controlled via midi. That statement is redundant.

well technically not MIDI but some midi floorboards do incoporate 1/4" relay switching so its possible to channel switch quite a number of amps..
