Extending Power Button?

Hi guys. I am having a problem right now. I have 2 pcs both in the same room where i do my audio production and for my leisure websurfing and stuff.

There is just too much noise coming out from them. Especially from the hard disks i tink. And i installed some extra fans as well which probably adds more noise.

im tinking of placing them in my cabinets. But then ill need to keep going to the back to turn them on. Are there anyway where i can extend the power button so that i could just turn them on near where i work?

ill probably be doing some ventilation panels. but more imptly is the power button. Coz i dun wan to be reaching in all the time to start it up.

the only way I can think of is tap into electronics (or get someone to do it for you at simlim square/tower) then extend the casing's "button" (it's a click switch) 's cable to stretch all the way like one of them audio speakers volume control cable right? so it's at the comfort of your desktop/mouse/keyboard/volume switch and go "click click" and the power's on.

OR! a more practical idea :

this one I haven't really tried a long time, and don't know if the bios supports it still, check your CMOS, if there's a "keyboard power up" or some sort. cos I used to do it on my Pentium 3 in those days where I would type for example "bp" and the comp powers on. or if I go in NS book in bmt, I would set in windows to auto shutdown at certain times (to prevent overheat) and then the cmos/bios had this function where I can set a date/time interval to AUTO power on. doubt the new mainboards have this function anymore. don't see it already.

ok i just did you a favour and checked on my desktop (laptop doesn't have it) , if you happen to be using the AMI (american megatrends inc) bios setup, it should be under something like a "power > APM configuration > power on by keyboard" but it's only got esc / spacebar / power button , or power on via mouse click *VERY sensitive* , chances of powering it on by accident is high haha.

like i said , it's not like the "killer" pentium 3 mainboard I had which can automate power on on dates + via a password "bp" . which means if I forgot that the password was "bp" even the normal power flip switch won't work (scared the hell out of me at times back then thought my pc blew)

wow thkz for doing that ron. Let me check if i have that function. Btw, does my pc have to be in sleep mode or if my power supply is turned on, using the keyboard i can power it p already?

nope, your PC can be totally turned off (but of course power socket plugged in, otherwise the 7th month.... some freaky stuff goin on in your com) and the press of a "space bar" or "CTRL-ESC" (depends on your setting) will power up your computer as if you went under neath the table to press the power button.

haha okay cool. i juz checked 1 of my pc bios has this function. gonna check my other one soon. does usb wireless keyboard and mouse work too?

oh i just realised something as well. what happens if i put my pc casing somewhere else den i wan to put some dvd and stuff into the drive? how can i place it outside?

haha yeah only my 2 newer desktops have this function, the old laptop/desktop (there's 3 desktop + 2 laptops in my room) I'm not sure about wireless bro, I've never been a fan of wireless keyboard/mouse cos the connection is just too damn unstable. kb/mouse is my weapon so for me best keep them wired haha.

as for your DVD.. this is going to be tricky lol, the only way I can imagine is , your casing sure have some spare PCI slots that you can bend/break open the casing slots for this : if your DVDrom/writer is PATA (parellel ATA) or SATA, you're going to need a REALLY LONG I/O,DATA cable AND power cable (extension) that stretches through the casing slots all the way out to ontop of your table. OR casing-less then build some kind of custom rack/woodboard to mount your powersupply, mainboard etc (but wiring or kids/pets hazard, not recommended) with that impracticality (but achieves the purpose)in mind you're better off a USB DVDWriter (again, with long USB cable) , which costs around $100+ now if i'm not wrong.

wah. i guess usb is the better way to go. Any difference between usb, ide and sata dvd drives/writer?

totally no idea, I haven't own a portable DVD writer at all. Sata should be the fastest/most stable.

USB unlike the past usb1.1 , probably dropouts/slow speeds.

but now there's 2 kinds of USB DVD writers, one is "bus powered" one is stand alone power. I'm also guessing the stand alone power adapter one would be better/more reliable than bus powered.
