Sigh, ever felt ur "guitar skills" are stuck at a particular place and no matter how hard you try, though u know new stuffs, learn new theory, put in hard work, yet still cannot be better?

ive been practising so long yet still cant.. "shred?" i know shred is not everything but.. it comes along the way right? (i hope?) i guess im out of the "finger pain" thingy, where every newbie faces, back like 1 to 2 yrs liao. yet my speed still so sucky, when im playing faster solos with crazy bend speeds and stuffs that is. :( SRV for example. anyoneee ahhhhhh.

and btw, ive been trying alot of diff models of guitars. and most of it i feel uncomfortable with it. in terms of feel on the neck only. is that also one of the reasons? shld i still go guitar hunting? or play very long to get use to my current guitar's feel? =/

hey newbie.....yea i feel that too. especially my exams and all keep failing recently. so not much time to prac now and making me feel even worse. gota study as A's around the corner. but i feel "stuck" too. well.......i think u shld get a nice guitar that suites ur feel, then u can work on from there. but im still searching for the perfect guitar too. oh wells.......after my A's, i intend to go on a guitar frenzy. :D

aha maybe can add me in msn and talk abt gears man! wahahha

jylai5@hotmail.com those wanna make new firends and talk abt gears plz do add me thanks. i wanna learn a lot more things abt guitars man. heh

btw dric what guitar u using now? ive tried, RG, fenders, lespaul(still considering if i shld get)... its like lespaul is slimmer but rounder... i like.. but.. stupid 17th fret thingy. sigh...

I'm just about to exit my 2.5 weeks of guitar abstinence, and i'm already facing a whole lot more problems. The lack of inspiration, motivation, especially when shit's happening around you. dric, i'm one of those who keep having to retake papers do to screw ups too :(

I feel, that sometimes it's not about the effort or hard work we put in, maybe we're just not doing it right, which thus results in very little or almost no improvement. Proper guidance for a period of time might help. I guess a one's gotta develop that positive attitude as well, always hungry to try overcome that obstacle in order to improve.

there was once i played everyday for abt one month..slowly by the end of the month my speed and accuracy fell slowly...i did'nt know why...later i stopped for 1week den i shifted to playing another rg with higher action...yet i could do everything again...for now i have'nt touched guitar for abt 1week. i guess materials and influence play the biggest part in guitar playing? and of cos peer pressure...esp seeing everyone being able to "shred"

hay88 - that's pretty normal. it's like u went running for one month and took a week break... then ur body recovers and u find u can run faster

very good point by pooo and thor... yeah i guess so.

haha maybe i shld get 2 guitars. use them alternately ah.? lol 1 month lp 1 month strat. oh well..

well we got the "motivation-so-called" to push us... but if our skills are still so-so after putting in much hard work. mmm wont go far i suppose?

even with proper guidance? :( means guitar playing requires talent? sigh

Well have the same prob now....I think the key is u need proper guidiance..I used to muck around the guitar and was gettin nowhere...then I sign up for guitar lessons and I improved by leaps and bounds...But sadly I have to stop my lessons cos I have to pursue my studies and studies need $$$...so wont have enough for lessons...haiz...So here I am now stucked again...Cant wait to graduate and get a job and continue my guitar lessons..Hee..

Maybe you should consider playing bass. Then, you can join my band. It’s not easy to find a bassist nowadays.

lol newbie, the equipments part ain't that important... maybe you need an instructor??? sometimes by just self learning there just is a certain stage you can go to...

I am taking lessons from someone... Sigh

imo i feel diff ppl require diff teachings....obstinate ppl like me will nvr ever take lessons...i improve at my own pace which sometimes keeps me at a certain level for a long time. as for equipment wise...i beg to differ as i feel newbies should seriously stick to a low action, slimed neck guitar...this way they improve faster and feel more motivated. :)

i understand your feeling. meeting the "right" teacher is akin to a "chemistry" thing, not easy to find the right fit. sometimes better not to learn if the fit doesn't match. :smt012
