ermm..im considering which bass i shud get..

shud i get a yamaha RBX-170...ESP-LTD B50....Ibanez GSR190JE...Ibanez GSR200-JB...or a samick one (greg bennett series)....ermm...pls give me ur comments...and ur explanation on why u choose tt particular bass...THANKS A MILLION GUYS!

hey man, quite simply, for 300 bucks, its quite hard to get something which can be used when you are advanced. at least thats my opinion. for that kind of budget you can get a decent bass, but more of a beginner bass la. i think its quite hard to get a quality one at that price to be honest. if you really are looking for quality, you might want to consider looking at the second hand section. Do you know what kind of bass you want? single pickup? or 2? there are a lot of other things to consider like how your taste evolves. you might like a p bass now, but find the neck quite tiring after a while. I'd advise you to just try out a lot of basses and take your time with buying, don't rush into anything. hope that helps...

The GSR series is a pretty decent beginner bass. There's nth fancy about it but its built tough and can get a pretty decent sound. And ibanez basses are generally very reliable IMO. :D

IMO i would go for either the Yamaha one or the GSR Ibanez one .. Yamaha because they produce quality instruments, their tone is nice for the beginner's range, decent lah ... Ibanez because really hardy, even the beginner's one is amazing .. so .. yeah .. these two ..

IMO i think 300 for an advanced bass will be to little .. even the mid-range ones cost around 700 - 1k .. you've gotta consider seriously ..

Ya, i agree with Jason on that one. My 1st bass was an SRX 500, cost about $800, and its still with me now even though i've moved on equipment wise. If you're really serious about playing the bass, consider spending a little bit more to buy a mid ranged bass. You could spend about $200 more and prob get an ibanez RD500 or a yamaha RBX374/375. :)

when i did my own hunt abt 4mths ago, to get a good beginner bass at that $300 range is a little challenging. you might want to start a search for a second hand one. i spent about $800 for a second bass and a brand new bass amp to get kicking. yupz, yamaha rbx 374 is indeed decent =) important thing is you like the feel and the tone =)

Yep, don't get all caught up with prices and what, sometimes the more expensive model just doesn't feel right. Go with what your hands and ears tell you. And shop around abit, you could probably find a pretty decent second hand bass floating around in the market for what can be considered rock bottom prices. :D

hi kid_slacker!!

if ur budget is 300, then get a tgm, craftsman or samick bass..
they mite sell at lesser than 300. the extra cash get urself some fresh strings..these basses are reliable.

it'll be a challenge to play these hard-to-play bassses but few yrs down the rd, wen u get better n ur fingers r stronger n u can afford better ones, u'll feel playing ur new better bass is a breeze.

better basses can wait..practicing times dat'll make u better wont..

my 2cents worth :)

its between the gsr 200 and the yamaha rbx 170. you'll have to go try out both to see what you like. personally i feel they're both beginner basses so maybe you want to look at other basses if you're not a beginner.

thanks a whole lot guys..hmm..everyone seems to talk bt the yamaha and ibanez..wad bt the esp ltd?does tt esp ltd b50 suck?comment as much as u like..an yea..the 300 bucks does nt include an amp..wait..i tink im increasing my budget to ard 400 bucks..at most 450..cos i tink 300 is too little....haha..im an absolute beginner..juz starting out for bass..i nid all ur precious advise..pls be generous with it.

Hey man,

just to put in a word too... if your budget is 400, you might want to hunt for an old Ibanez Soungear. They aren't the best things in the world but very decent and will last you till you get to the level where you wanna sink a couple of thousands into something that is really your style.

Remember that you want something you use till that stage or you will not be satisfied with what you have and playing is about enjoying it and having a decent instrument to enjoy the playing is very important.

Other stuff to look out for in terms of make and quality for beginner stuff:

1) Japanese Ibanez Soundgear (Just hunt, 400 can do the trick if you find the right person to sell you one)

2) Fernandes Gravity basses

3) Washburn Bantam series stuff

4)Hohner The Jack ( I have one.....paid only about 450 only, bought it as a toy but realised it kicks ass)

5) Mexican fenders

Don't go for the super cheapie stuff cos you will tire of them soon.

Have fun hunting.

the yammy rbx 374 is a very playable bass .. someone is selling it on luther classifieds for $400 .. a good buy , would buy it for myself if i needed an additional 4 stringer

actually it really depends on what kind of music you play. with a budget of $450, you can get pretty good basses.

also, there are different kinds of pickups. you can read the forum to get an idea of what kind of pickup (read: p/j or p or j or 2X humbucker or whatever) you want.

seriously i would recommend a fender mexican jazz bass. its really a pretty good bass and im using too. you get the fender feel as a beginner and it'll last you quite a while, so its pretty worth it. i totally regret getting a samick when i first started, first hand for $280, and selling it away for $100 after a year cos i got sick of it. invest a little more and get smth better with better tones.

so yeah, thats what i think only.

IMO

Hey kid slacker, hear me out... you're putting aside 300 bucks for a what you described as a beginner bass which you wish to use til the time you're advanced rite? tel you wat, y not you save up another 500 bucks and grab the 4 string Fender J bass at Luther.... For 800 bucks, you'll get a nice and versatile tone and which you can use or keep till the day your grandchild wants to start playin' bass bcos Fender rocks and rules!!!!

i suggest getting the yamaha... i find yamaha a good bass to start with.. sorry stingray but i disagree with you cos i think straight away get good bass not really that good cos although fender is good.. but it does not suit everyone's need...

for me.. i started by getting a 2nd hand yamaha at parklane there... $190 ... you want to can go check out 2nd hand shop cos yamaha models sometimes quite X if u get from Music plaza... my exact model was selling for $545

and don't rush your 1st bass... some ppl say anything also can one.. but its important also to get one you really like... so dun paiseh... ask the shop if u can try.. most important is you like your bass..

oh, yah i forgot abt second hand bass oso!! really a god send if u u r a patient hunter.

but like i said better/more expensive basses can wait. developing ur skills cant. unless of course u r a rich man son arr like some of us here.

since u have 450 max to play ard, use part of it for bass n leave some for new strings.. make it 2 sets. understanding ur new bass tone is ultra impt, dats y u nid new set of strings.

if u ask me get a fender style bass which is the benchmark design for most bass. ani brand will do. most imptortantly, the string spacings n pickup position. cuz dis will affect ur right hand technique the most. and upgrading wont be a pain cuz most basses are fender stlyed aniway. yamaha is definitely worth it n is within ur 400 range. it's gd oso!!!!

Patience is the name of the game when it comes to second hand stuff man. If you're patient, and lucky enough, a really good deal will definitely come your way.

But if you prefer them brand new, the yamaha 374/375 series is excellent choice, another pretty nice bass for a pretty reasonable price would be Crafter, it has a 1 jazz and 1 MM p/u configuration, so its really quite versatile. I think Ranking Sports has one, tried it that day at Peninsula Plaza, can't remember the name of the shop, its a pretty decent bass. The sound didn't exactly blow me away, but it does offer that versatility, and is quite decent for the price.

Oh, and Hafiz, i heard you guys came in second. Congrats :)

the main thing is to try and try and try and try .. you have to feel your bass before you buy it ..

it's like finding a girlfriend .. you have to find "THE ONE" .. that's why must keep trying until you find it .. =) ..
