they don't count goal difference in the group stages.. its head to head results that count.. since celtic score 2 "away" goals against Man U.. so technically they're top of the group.

Fabregas - Walcott is one of the world's best youngsters
Arsenal 3-1 Hamburg
Champions League Group Stage

Perhaps it takes one to know one.

Cesc Fabregas believes Theo Walcott is the best young player in the Premiership if not the world.

The 17-year-old winger made a crucial cameo appearance late in the game against Hamburg on Tuesday night. Walcott came off the bench in the 75th minute and caused havoc in tiring the German defence. He capped his display with a perfect cross for Julio Baptista to nod home the tension-easing third goal.

Of course it is only three years since a 16-year-old Fabregas first stole Highbury hearts with his precocious talent. Now a veteran of 120 games, the Spaniard is in prime position to judge the new kid on the block.

“He is the best player of that age playing in the Premiership,” said Fabregas, “Definitely. When he came to Arsenal you could see he has the quality. If I had to choose two players it would be him and Lionel Messi, because I saw what he could do at Barcelona. For me they are the two best players I have seen at 16 to17.

“When Theo comes on for the last 15 or 20 minutes you can see he can do something. He's so quick, so powerful and showed that once again this evening. For the third goal I thought he had gone too far but he put it perfectly on Baptista's head.”

Despite the similarities in their career Walcott has never sought Fabregas’ counsel.

“He has not asked me for advice, no,” said the former Barcelona player. “He is a very clever boy and he knows more than what a player of his age should know. His family is always close to him and they treat him so well at Arsenal.

“The advice is always from the boss, from Thierry. I'm just 19. I'm nearly the same age so I can't give him advice.

“But he is a great guy and I think getting called up for the World Cup has definitely helped him.”

Sven Goran Eriksson’s decision to take him to Germany surprised many and has made Walcott newsworthy whatever he does. With that attention comes the weight of expectation.

“I think it's normal,” said Fabregas. “Theo is showing everyone that he is a great player and people expect a lot of him. I know from my own experience it takes time when you are young.

“In my case it's different because I am Spanish. He is English so there are greater expectations. In England the young players are under pressure but he is able to handle it like Wayne Rooney did and that is why he is so good. Sometimes the manager uses him sparingly so people don't have a go at him but I am sure he will play many times for Arsenal.”

Corections to my earlier post...
Arsenal have yet to qualify along with Man U....
The teams that goes thru so far...
we hv 3 brit teams (Liverpool,Celtic & Chelsea),2 Italians (AC & Inter Milan),1 German(Bayern Munich),1 French(Lyon),2 Spanish(Real Madrid & Valencia) & 1 Dutch(PSV Eindhoven)...

11 teams so far...5 slots to go...

We have Werder Bremen & FC Barcelona from group A...
(Barca needs to beat Bremen to qualify.Any other results will send Bremen through)

Roma & Shaktar Donetsk from group D...
(Roma must avoid defeat in their last game against Valencia or if they lose,Shaktar does not win their game as well.Shaktar needs to win at Olympiacos and hopes that Roma loses their last game as well to go thru)

Man Utd & Benfica from group F...
(Benfica must beat Man U to qualify.Any other results will send Man U thru..)

Arsenal,Porto & CSKA Moscow from group G...
a very sticky situation for all 3 teams...
we have Porto at home to Arsenal and Hamburg at home to CSKA...
If Porto wins, they will top the group..Arsenal will be 2nd if CSKA does not win their game...
If Arsenal wins, they will top the group...Porto will be 2nd if CSKA does not win their game...
If CSKA wins and there's a winner between Porto & Arsenal,CSKA goes thru as runner-up...
If CSKA draws or loses,Arsenal & Porto goes thru - winner of arsenal-porto game tops the group but if the game ends up a draw arsenal tops the group based on better head-to-head results between the 2...
The tricky part is when CSKA wins and Arsenal-Porto ends up a draw...
all 3 teams will have 11 pts...
based on head-to-head results -
arsenal hv a 2 goal advantage over porto after their 2-0 home win earlier on..
CSKA has a 1 goal advantage against arsenal after their 1-0 home win and 0-0 away at arsenal...
Porto has a 2 goal advantage against CSKA after their 0-0 home draw and 2-0 away win at CSKA...
based on the above,
arsenal will have 5pts after 1 win (against porto) and 2 draws with a goal ave of +1...
CSKA will have 5 pts after 1 win (against arsenal) and 2 draws with a goal average of -1...
Porto will have 5 pts after 1 win (against CSKA) and 2 draws with a goal average of 0...
therefore if the results goes this way, arsenal goes thru as group winner and porto will qualify as runners-up...

AEK Athens & Lille from group H....
(AEK must win their last game against Anderlecht to go thru.Lille must beat AC Milan away and hopes that AEK does not win their last game to go thru)

that's 11 teams to fight for the remaining 5 slots...

I've got a strange feeling that Mau U wont make it to the next round of Champions League. If they dont make it, they only have to look at themselves in the mirror and reflect upon their deeds. If there is one thing to learn from this experience, it is not to be complacent and not to take things lightly. As if Fergie never knew the story about "The Hare and The Tortoise". Maybe its time for Fergie to retire and let a fresher blood to take over. Only time will tell.

well.. if they don't make it.. then Fergie will definitely go and heads will roll! although they will definitely make it to the Uefa cup..

Anyway i have this feeling that it won't happen lah.. Man U's at home and it won't be easy to beat them there.. especially with the whole crowd cheering for them.. Hopefully we have Solksjaer back then.. cos he seems to be the only non-bobo shooter for our team when the CL is concerned

but first of all Man U has to play more of the english style and go for the jugular instead of the "European" style they played in the Celtic game.. which is more control style.. see what happened on both occasions when they played that (lost 1-0 to both Copenhagen and Celtic)

I do agree with Fergie should retire. A new manager will be able to bring a new perspective to MUFC but who?

Imagine Cantona comes back to head MUFC. WOW!

haha... don't think Cantona is a gd choice.. i think we should let Carlos Quireoz have a try first.. haha.. if he doesn't fit after 6 months can always sack him and get someone else..

Mark Hughes would be a good choice.. he def. knows the kind of style that Man U plays 8)

cantona is a special player...
although he's not proven as a manager yet...
he mite be a gd nominee...
others former players players like mark hughes & steve coppell are not as bad...
they've proven their worth leading blackburn & reading respectively in the EPL...
or Man U can even try roping in sam allardyce...
itz best for Man U to rope in someone from UK rather than looking abroad...
but if they hv to look away from home, maybe "diving king" juergen klinsmann is also not a bad manager...

Oh yea ... ex-asst manager Carlos Quireoz is a good choice. It was a pity they let him go and I thought that was a really bad mistake.

Cantona, who knows he comes out with weird formations. LOL! 5 strikers and 1 GK and 5 defenders. Ever goal you score against me it's ok, let my strikers pump another 1 or 2 more as long as we win. LOL!

Oh please lah you guys, not Carlos Quireoz. He was bad when he was with Real Madrid. How about Ottmar Hitzfeld ?? He had been with Bayern Munich for so long and was involved in them winning alot of championships. I love how the Germans play. They always look steady in every department. Frankly the Germans are mentally tough.

I am assuming Roy Keane will be good with tactical games if he's given the exposure to managing a team. But with his temper, who knows it's going to be just like one of those Fergie's fiery moment in the dressing room. 8O
