My values and reasons for the love of ARSENAL F.C. are not up for discussion anyway....

No one is discussing nor doubting your values and reasons for the love of the club. Of course, there are people dissing your club, and you are free to defend your favourite club.

Surely though, you don't have to bring in other clubs into the picture and diss them, or insult individuals in the game for that matter.

yep Rafa's having sleepless nights, Fergie's shitting in his pants and Moan-rinho's having a nervous breakdown at the thought of a revitalised and revigorated ARSENAL in their new Emirates stadium in 06/07.

'Balanced, twinkled-toed and beautiful to watch'
Robert Pires’ last contribution for Arsenal was to make way for substitute keeper Manuel Almunia after Jens Lehmann had been sent off in the Champions League Final. After the French midfielder completed a move to Villarreal, Arsenal.com editor Richard Clarke argues it was hardly a fitting epitaph.

For a man with “ten to two feet”, Robert Pires could time his runs into the penalty area to perfection. While club-mate and compatriot Thierry Henry specialised in the spectacular it could be argued that the former Marseille man monopolised the more mundane strikes.

Yes, there were some crackers — the winner at Liverpool in 2004 for example — but Pires’ major goals were often the result of educated runs and elementary finishes. Think back to the winning goal of the 2003 FA Cup Final or the 2001 Semi-Final for the perfect illustrations.

But it was not always this way.

Before March 23, 2002, Pires was en route to becoming one of the most sublime talents ever to grace Highbury. After signing in the summer of 2000 he had slowly adapted to the rigours of the English game to become graceful and incisive in equal measure. He was balanced, twinkled-toed and beautiful to watch. In the estimations of this observer, the Pires of the season 2001/02 was the only Arsenal player in the last 30 years whose technique is comparable to Dennis Bergkamp and Liam Brady.

The Frenchman was on fire against Newcastle in the FA Cup Sixth Round replay back on that March day. In the opening nine minutes he had scored himself and set up a second for Bergkamp. Then, in the 27th minute, the Frenchman hurdled a challenge from Nikos Dabizas near the touchine and landed in a heap on the other side. Pires had seriously damaged the cruciate knee ligament in his knee. He would be out for seven months.

Arsenal.com spoke to Pires during his rehabilitation and, somewhat surprisingly, he was his usual smiling self. He even had a phlegmatic attitude to missing the French defence of the World Cup. ‘Been there, won that,’ he argued, ‘there are plenty of people worse off than me’.

But very few had his talent. So when he hobbled on to the podium to collect the Premiership at the end of the 2002 season, Highbury erupted and the entire squad got down on their knees in homage. For that season at least, no one was worthy.

It is testament to Pires that he rebuilt his career following an injury that, in years gone past, would have ended it. He became much more of goal-taker than goal-maker and the statistics bear this out. He scored a total of 84 goals in 284 Arsenal appearances, an average of one goal every 3.38 games. Before the injury his strikerate was a goal every 4.6 games, afterwards it was 2.98. In his final four seasons he hit 63 goals — a decent tally for a striker let alone a midfielder.

And Pires also had a feeling for the Club too. On the day David Rocastle died he spoke of the honour of wearing “numero sept” and his last interview with Arsenal.com a few weeks ago was truly appreciative of those who had cheered him on.

“I am privileged because the fans always liked me, ever since the beginning. There is a song about me and I am proud of that. When the fans like you and sing your name it’s very special and I don’t want it to stop.

“Playing on the wing I can hear what they are saying. They help us when they cheer. It is a force to help give everything you have. You don’t want to disappoint them.”

Pires rarely did.

My biggest salutation and respect for the indeed true gunner

Exclusive: Wenger - Rosicky is the replacement for Pires
By Richard Clarke

Arsène Wenger sees Tomas Rosicky as a direct replacement for Robert Pires.

The French midfielder announced his departure from Arsenal late last week. It came just days after the Club had unveiled Rosicky as their first acquisition of the summer.

In an exclusive interview with the Club’s official website, the Arsenal manager explained that although the two players are not identical, the Czech international will fit comfortably into the hole Pires has left in the squad.

“I took Rosicky to replace Robert,” explained Wenger. “I moved very quickly after Robert told me he would go. I wanted to secure [Rosicky] before the World Cup starts.

“He is a little bit similar position-wise to Robert. He can play in Dennis Bergkamp’s role, on the left, in a 4-3-3 or central. But he is slightly a different style.

“[Rosicky] is an accelerator of the game, a guy who can create things, see things quickly and whose best years are ahead of him.”

9/1 - Tomas Rosicky to be Arsenal's top scorer in the World Cup

i think (n wenger n many arsenal fans would think too) that the gunners are truly embarking on their next glorious lap of history. yes, the extension of henry's services surely gave them a boost. but amid of the hoo-hah abt his future at arsenal, the rest of the squad are taking shape and in good directions. kudos to wenger for being yet again a talented manager. they dun hav the millions of chelsea. but we dun want $$ to become such a big part of soccer, dont we? soccer fans dun really need to see millionaires running on the pitch. we just want beautiful soccer n wouldnt really bother who is playing.

BTW UNAGI- i believe Wenger the only coach who take potential player from those "expensive-yet-do-not-show-result-player" if you noe wat i mean....and yes, i really confident the next season is there for their taking....

lol. btw guys, im not even an Arsenal fan, hahaha. but they play nice footie to watch.

im actualy a West Hammer :P

Exclusive: Wenger won't rush back into transfer market
By Richard Clarke

If Arsène Wenger does make further signings this summer then he will take his time.

In an exclusive interview with the Club’s official website, the Arsenal manager outlined his current thoughts on adding to the acquisition of Tomas Rosicky. Wenger suggested that there were “one or two positions” to strengthen but added that, such was the strength of his young squad, he would be “comfortable” to go into the new campaign with his current roster of players.

At the press conference held on May 19 to announce to retention of Thierry Henry, the manager suggested he’d sign “one or two high-calibre players” over the close season.

“I have already respected my word,” said Wenger when questioned about further signings. “One is in.

“But I give myself time now for the second if it happens because I feel we have plenty of players. Look at our squad. In defence there’s Djourou, Senderos, Campbell, Toure, Cole, Clichy, Flamini plus Hoyte coming back. In midfield, Gilberto, Fabregas, Hleb, Rosicky, Ljungberg, Flamini who can still play there and Reyes. Up front as well we have plenty of players too.

“Remember we have players at the World Cup who have not featured for us.”

“I would be comfortable yes [if we brought in no one else] but you never know, we might go for somebody else if the right occasion comes along. There are one or two positions we can still strengthen.”

9/1 - Tomas Rosicky to be Arsenal's top scorer at the World Cup
