the combo, so to speak, is a cab with an integrated head. you need not mess with the driver resistance-head matching as you're not connecting it to an external driver source

K thanks! Do you have one too? Have you tried different tubes? The VJs do sound slightly muddier compared to my other fender-style amp, was thinking about a trip down to Burlington sometime next week.

I used to own one...

I like the VJ as it is. ill definition isn't attributable to valve types/ brands per se, the cab & drivers also play a part.
