Epiphone Lespaul standard

Epiphone lespaul standard (might be a plus cos my friend said its a honey-burst) with duncan'59/superdistortion pickups, grover tuners and a hardcase for $650AUD, which is abt 30% more if you convert to sgd. btw im a singaporean living in perth. keeping in mind that the lespaul standard costs 999 down here in australia, i'd think thats quite a good deal that my friend is selling right? the guitar is in good condition as well.

i dunnoe.. from a guy i met 2 days b4.. he said he got his epiphone lp at $500 sgd brand new with hard case at this point of time from swee lee.. said they were giving him a 20% discount on it.. hmmm

i wish i had access to singapore music stores. Everything down under costs me twice what i would pay in singapore.

shaox-don't buy it. epiphones aren't worth that kind of money, not even new.

ichiro-epiphones are very overpriced for what they do. if you wanted a really chunky guitar you could always buy one of the generic (suzuki, tokai, etc) lp copies, they sound about as good and cost about a third as much. the lp sound is very overrated, it's all branding by gibson. in my experience (the other guitarist in my band has a gibson lp custom and i've played numerous gibson and epiphone lp studios and standards), lps don't sustain well and sound very brittle played clean. they drive amps well but i personally prefer the sound of a 335 or a tele-and besides, if your guitar sounds bad to begin with there's no point in compensating with a nice amp. they also have really uncomfortable necks. it's not that i'm a gibson hater, i love the sound of firebirds and 335s, it's just that lps don't do anything for me. my prs does the lp sound better than an lp and it cost me less.

The lespaul actually retails for 999 here standard price. Getting it at almost halfprice with upgraded duncan pickups, grover tuners and a hardcase still doesnt make it worthwhile? BTW i live in perth

Oh and he dropped the price down to 550 cos he needs the money fast for something else.

Tokai one third of epiphone price??Where can i buy it?

so with the same budget for an epiphone($500-$600), what other better les paul copies are there..
i thought tokais were in the >900 range?

other LP copies i recommend (but must upgrade electronics)

craftsman, J&D (same OEM)
TGM
Aria
Agile (from US)

all cheaper than epi LP good craftsmanship but change the pups, u have a better sounding and cheaper LP than an epi LP

Sorry jon, just how many properly set up Gibson Les Pauls have you played to come to the conclusion that they are brittle and have uncomfortable necks?

If your idea of a comfy neck is a thin Wizard neck thn i have no futher comments.

I just find it hard to believe that you can find the tone brittle. No intent to flame or anything just trying to see where your coming from. :)

YES a thin Wizard neck is super comfy... :D

i personally feel tat epiphone lp standard is worth it ( SGD 600). my made in china have almost no flaws, juz except the rosewood quality isnt tat good. but however if it cost 1k, its a total different thing. i got no complains with my epip LP standard, and i always wanted to epip bob marley

same here i'm quite satisfied with my epiphone les paul. Its a korean made, the pickups is decent enough if you know how to tweak the individual pole heights.

for other lp copies you can try SHINE, their les pauls are not only shiny, but the pickups are rather decent for that price. Shine guitars are made from the same korean factory that used to make epiphone guitars. They are priced somewhat similar or maybe even slightly less than an epiphone.

sorry, i didn't mean to get anyone flared up. gibson necks, at least to me, tend to have very stiff string action, especially for bending. personally, my favorite neck is the wide/fat neck on my prs mccarty. wizard necks feel like toys and gibson necks are too thick without being wide i guess, prs-type necks seem to fall in between.

as for prices, if i was wrong then i was wrong, i'm going by prices that i see at local guitar stores near where i am in the states-i have no idea how much swee lee or luther would want for lp copies. then again, why would you want to buy an lp copy? if you're hell-bent on getting an lp you might as well get the real thing from gibson.

Mmm Gibson have a few neck profiles I think.

And the scale length is shorter than a PRS, so if both well set up the Gibson should have a looser feeling...

But then again if the PRS has a vibrato bridge that might contribute to the looser feeling too.

Hmmm...

Well, for me, 10s on a Gibson neck scale feel slightly tighter than 9s on a Floyd Rose equipped guitar with 25.5".

10s on the gib neck scale feel the same as 9s on a fixed bridge 25.5" neck guitar.

Anyway, I dislike the fat neck of gibs/epis... plus the laccquer feels just wrong and sticky... wasn't fun to play it... The most comfortable C shape neck I've played was a JS1000... amazing comfort but the multi radius was irritating for me...

Hmm jon, maybe you should try the 60s style neck for a Gibby, they have the 50s neck which i tink id the on you tried they can be big, Im playing a Les Paul Classic with the 60s slim taper neck, im have small hands and they fit nicely for me, no offence to ibanez players, i dun like the wizard necks either too thin.

Hmm like what ark said, Gibbys have a shorter scale and should feel looser than your McCarty since they both have set bridges.

Never played a PRS b4 but i really dig the singlecut McCarty, hows the wide/fat neck of the McCarty compared to the Gibson neck you played?
