Epiphone les paul

hey guys,

i just bought my epi les paul standard a few days ago from sweelee and when i asked the salesman if there is any epi from japan, he said now all epi's are made in china. is it true? mine is china made and a day after i bought my guitar, i experienced some technical fault in the pickup selector. i dont think the quality of the guitars from china are good. Any comments?
 
I got an epiphone from sweelee too...
it's made from china...
i had some problems with the selector wen selecting the bridge pups...
but it should be ok after u set up the electronics and stuff...
 
These are QC problems which some guitars have. Just upgrade a better pickup selector like Switchcraft. They should last you long enough.
 
I'm not exactly sure if there's any current production MIJ Epiphones, but I doubt so, since the Elitist line of guitars were discontinued in 2008, I believe. We hardly ever see non-Elitist MIJ Epiphones in Singapore also, so I think they no longer produce Epiphones. I might be wrong though.

Anyway, even when the Elitist models were being produced, I don't recall Swee Lee ever bringing any of those in. It was either Korean or China-made.

Well, there are always gems and lemons, no matter whether Chinese or Japanese. Maybe you were just unlucky.
 
Epiphone Guitars now are all made in QingDao island, China.

Some of hits and some are misses. I got my Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus Top & it screams for me from the time I bought it till now. I find absolutely no fault with it.
 
I've heard of someone's MIC Les Paul Classic breaking at the neckjoint... I wouldn't be too trusting of MIC Epiphones now unless they have bolt-on necks. However, I've played an MIK Epiphone Les Paul standard, and a Gibson Les Paul standard on the same day, and the MIK Epiphone was obviously not as good as the Gibson, but it wasn't lightyears behind.

So yeah, my money would be on the MIK Epiphones. For MIC Epiphones - I wouldn't be so quick to buy one. I'd rather go for something that has been proven more reliable, yet a whole lot cheaper. That's what I call bang-for-buck. In my humble opinion, MIC Epiphones aren't bang for buck.

Consider. MIC Les Paul standard vs. MIK Les Paul standard, the MIK is only about $200-300 more. I'm not dissing Chinese guitars, though. I've found 'Chinese gems', but none of them were Epiphones. Of course, I'm willing to take back my words if an MIC Epiphone does indeed impress me, because I'm not willing to say that all MIC Epiphones aren't reliable. I haven't played every since piece in the world so I can't say. But generally, I feel that MIK Epiphones are more worth the money.

hey dude, don't be disheartened! mic epis are improving! its just that their QC control aren't as high as those in japan! besides, they MICs are cheaper, and you just have to try each of them out carefully until you find no faults and stuff, and you could always bring it to any guitar tech to get it sorted out, and there you go! i bought an epi from swee lee months back, and got it well setup, sounds as good as an MIJ epi that my friend is using!
 
The MIC Epiphones I do agree can be a hit or a miss but once you've found something that you really like stock, all it needs is a few cheap upgrades and it'll turn into a guitar you will enjoy playing without shame regarding the branding that's on the headstock.

I've both the MIJ (ebony custom) and a MIC (ivory custom) and they both really do play well after some upgrades.

Considering that a set-neck is glued on (as opposed to the single piece of wood in a neck-thru and steel bolts on a bolt-on) if there is any inconsistencies in the glueing, the neck will come off quite easily.

i had the same prob. most probably the pickup selector or the wiring is faulty. the QC control very lousy but the only diff between MIC and MIK Epis are the better QC control?

bro, dont scare me or i very scared the neck will break lol coz china made products suck lol i dont even know y i bought the china made epi maybe i bought it on impulse
 
This will only happen if you're super lucky man... Don't worry about it and just rock the guitar. It will be such a shame if the country where its made from is the only cause to shun a guitar.

A good guitar will be a good guitar no matter where its made. Sure it won't be 100% perfect every time a guitar comes out from the factory but a guitar neck won't just DROP out every day.

Dude.. China-made guitars don't all suck. It depends on the factory's quality control. I find China-made Ibanezes, OLPs and LTDs pretty good, but China-made Epiphones rather poor. It really depends on the individual factory.
 
well i have a made in china Epiphone Goth Sg tone of it is marvelous compare to the previous made in china less paul 100 which i have also from swee lee. sometimes i felt that the QC quality is not there depends on whether u r Hengs/Sway from the piece you get. when i play it at swee lee upon purchasing the les pual 100 it sounds ok but after a few days of playing n hearing the sound turns out like shit.:confused:
 
That is why its best to test a guitar before making a purchase and of course, after testing the said guitar, get the guitar that you test! Not ask them for a new set that they keep... else there's no point testing the guitar right??
