any bro or sis here played an epiphone hummingbird before or own it? what's your opinions of this beauty? haven't seen 1 around in swee lee though.. hmm.. they don't bring them in?

but the last time i visited sweelee they still had the piece.but that was almost 2 mths ago.try asking the staff there.epis are a cheaper solution to gibson.that was what epis is almost about.

I saw it at both Swee Lee's branches. Sim branch, was a MIK piece. Not sure if it's still available there.

I've got an Epiphone Excellente (reissue) kinda like the Epiphone Hummingbird.. except it has a Rosewood body..

Image-wise: The average person goes wow! because of the fancy pickguards and fret inlays.

Sound-wise: It's a bit more grunty and deep because of the rosewood backs and body.. but i think the hummingbird's not as chunky..

Playability: I haven't actually taken my guitar to a luther to get it set up. Just some DIY, and the actions not too bad.=) The neck's quite thick (Gibson/Epiphone styles) so it's a matter of what you're used to.

Thing about epiphones and gibsons these days (so i've heard) is that the quality ain't consistent. So if you've got to make sure you try the one you're going to own?

All the best "hunting down" that hummingbird!

It' beautiful ~!!!! (Ephiphone Hummingbird),

Sound, hmm, cannot compare to Gibson dude, they are totally different benchmark~...

Try hunt for a Korean made..., :-)

:)

Hmmm my sales pitch is in my sale thread so i'll leave it there. My 2 cents on the characteristics of its sound... It has a more mellow tone than most acoustics I've tried, with quite a pronounced lower-mid; so if you are looking for a Taylorish 'chimey' sound it's better to try elsewhere. The mellowness actually puzzles me somewhat. I thought mahoghany side and back = brighter? Perhaps cos the construction of the guitar itself la, or the age of my piece.

For a dreadnaught the body is slightly thinner, not so boxy; IMO this lends a less open, more focused sound to the guitar. For me I love how it sounds like when you really dig in, very sweet. I do feel that light pickers won't get much out of the guitar though...

i've tried it before.. quite problematic to me, hopefully it's just that piece. But epiphone to me tends to have the problem with the neck.. choose carefully :)
