hi to all.. im looking to buy an acoustic guitar and went down to swee lee @ bras brasah to take a look. tried quite a few but really liked the sound of the epiphone hummingbird.. but the thing is i dont really like the colour. are there any other colours or only cherry sunburst?

also are there any other guitars you will recommend which is similar to the epiphone hummingbird? warm and mellow.. how's ibanez? fender?

i guess my budget would be around 600-800? im not sure if i should get one with pick ups too.. really hope to get some suggestions. thanks!!

Lots of choices, you could check out Takamine? Walden? Norman? Ovation? Just to name a few :) You looking at Solid Top or Laminate top?

The Epiphone Hummingbird is also available in natural, but I could be wrong.

Walden guitars offer good value for money. You can check them out at Ranking Sports and Music, opposite Swee Lee at Bras Basah complex. Solid-tops for around $300+.

Avoid Ibanez acoustics. They don't sound good anymore. AND they are pricey.

Try the Cort Earth series 200 may make you fall for it,

able to be found at sweelee too

anyway, epiphone did issue out other colours of hummingbird like the antique sunburts if i'm not wrong, but those are limited

edit:

i forgot to also include, as for pick up you can always get those mounted pickups like shadow

I personally think some of the lower-end Corts have rather cheap-looking tops... but the $600+ range should be fine. In fact they were very nice. Worth checking out, too. And located at Swee Lee also. In fact, Cort Earth 100 onwards looked really nice already. Those have solid-tops and cost around 300+?

don't get the epip humming bird...for acoustic, seriously walk around penin...there are MUCH MUCH better choices for that price range...500 dollars would fit your budget right ? Perfect! Go get a custom acoustic from City music...ALL SOLID construction for same price as humming bird...

their excellent cheapest acoustics! I would definitely recommend them to ANYONE with 500 bucks and are looking for an acoustic guitar...in fact, 300-450 would be enough already! go check them out dude! Sweelee ain't the only shop.

I think the Epiphone Hummingbird is a pretty darn good guitar... good sound, well-made and with good looks. But I have to agree with IbanezFreak that the Hummingbird, or any Epiphone acoustic for that matter, is not very value for money, if you compare it with lesser-known brands like Custom Acoustic that are available only to the Singapore market (hence not well known overseas).

Custom Acoustic is able to offer more expensive specifications (such as all solid woods) for lower prices, but whether they make better guitars than Epiphone, really depends. But value-for-money wise, Custom Acoustic wins.

mmmhmm...and honestly, i can guarantee you'll get better tone and enjoyment over the years...but you just have to watch out for humidity...and an all solid guitar would sound nice, woody, and opened in the years to come!

All the best dood! I simply love acoustic! Its the best :D Just pick it up and enjoy the guitar :)
