Epiphone Explorer

well, if you'd have money to get an epiphone, you could rather try the highways, get a friend to share with you in the 2for1 deal at sweelee, think its a strat plus tele...725for 1 guitar... either that or you could get the japanese strats from mr luther... but personnel preferences right?

Cheers

He's looking for a more chunkier fuller tone, so i think the strats would be out.

hofner: I guess not many people use the explorers, hence little reviews on it. Why don't you go with a Les Paul? It's a little more common, should be able to get more reviews about it than you would the explorer.

i think i should try a few more strats....to make sure that its my yamaha that has that hollow problem.

If not i would try the red Squier and LTD viper next.

Just realised something...maybe the best neck access guitar would be...Flying V?

not really, if you have long fingers, the side of the body keeps on rubbing on your fingers, and it feels very uncomfortable, wheres as if your fingers short, you can practically fly on the last half-dozen frets...

Hee...I have short fingers...probably why

players here are still particular about looks, that's disturbing because looks contribute zilch to tone. i understand that there are parties who are concerned with the re-sale value of their guitars & looks contribute greatly towards that. despite how the LTD look like, to me, they play & sound better than the Epi Explorer.

on the explorer note, the Ibanez Destroyer is an attempt to ride on the hype of the explorer shape. it's been revived 2yrs ago, but sadly, none made it here... tsk, tsk, tsk.

is the Destroyer any good, by the way? one koa incarnation if it became Van Halen's main guitar & was used throughout the recording of '1984'. however, in a moment of artistic brashness, van halen chunked off a tail end piece & rounded off the bottom bit but it destroyed the tone totally. being guitar ignorant, van halen didn't realize that the body material near the bridge's tail end was tone-crucial. the tone was gone & no subsequent model could replace its individuality. there you have it, the story of how van halen nearly became an Ibanez endorser...

subversion...can u tell me more about the squier strat made of mahogany? Its new i think. i am also considering the LTD viper but sadly its a bolt on neck.

you could try a telecaster... get a second hand one if its slightly off the budget... or as pooo said, get a les paul... its common, got resale value, looks and all...but really, gibsons are WAY OVERPRICED!!!

les paul seems kinda constricted to certain types of music...and not sure about its comfort...i see more strat players playing like vai than les paul players playing like vai.

sorry i think mycomment was a dumb one...after exams i plan to go on a guitar trying spree....try REAL les pauls , strats and ernie balls...

i was really inlove with the pink telecaster at guitar 77...sadly its been sold...and i could not afford it.

that red Squier strat you saw is a new model form 2005's Master Series. another stunning model from that range is this tele:
Squier-Master-Thinline-Te-s.jpg

late 2004, Fender's Custom Shop luthier, Todd Krause, was assigned to add an elite range of Squiers to the catalogues, hence the Master Series are born. if we are lucky, we might see it here September...

don't let a bolt-on make put you off, there are bolt-on units out there which sound more appealing than set-neck units 8)

haha, roughly how much is your budget for that? maybe you could try ibanez, those sa models... they cost about 1.2k for the cheapest ones... they are really great guitars...

then maybe you should consider a japanese stratocaster, its versatille, and you can get the pickups to sensors or marzios later... As you said, you could try the epi explorer... the flying-v looks good too... or maybe the les pauls... Arrghhh!!! got myself a headache trying to think which is better(or suited to my needs)

Anyway ,cheers

Say, what pickups are those? they look like Seymour Duncans. The neck one, anyway.
