i personally prefer Ibanez Artcore series to epi dot

count me in. but let's not make this an Ibanez vs Epi kinda discussion.

i've played countless Artcore models- it seems that these guitars are pleasant sounding as they are. shows that the 'correct' electronics/ hardware/ wood are selected for the guitar, giving it a very pleasant voicing to start with, despite the budget constraints. definitely getting an Artcore this year... 8)

the less pleasant ones are IMO the vibrato equipped models.

i've not tried any of the Artcore series, but i've tried an Epi Dot before.

as i recall, the neck was chunky, wide and quite a flat radius. not everyone's cup of tea, but but i felt it had more room for fingerwork than an LP due to its width. very playable, although i was not used to the large body.

tone-wise, not as deep as a solidbody, a bit more definition to notes IMO.

do u guys use these semi-hollow for jazz only?

besides jazz artists, semi-hollow guitars in the style of the Gibson ES-335 have been very popular with punk bands, as well as rock n roll bands... even Noel Gallagher of Oasis uses them!

You forgot to mention blues, man!

Eric Clapton, Keith Richards were using semi-hollow Gibsons before going Strat/Tele. the 1st 2 Deep Purple albums [notably, In Rock] was the sound of a ES-335 wailing, soon after Blackmore went Stratocaster.

haha... sama sama lah, jony

but i need to take a break from buying gear... or rather, my wallet needs a break. too much spent on gear recently cos of new amp and mij epi

yeah don't wanna turn this into a epi vs ibanez argument but from what i've heard, the artcore models seem to be robust choices..

can't wait to get my hands on one. maybe an AS103, sigh i just wish they came in another colour. :(
