ephiphone EJ-160e vs taylor 214ce?

i would go for the taylor 214 !!
beautiful shape..
yet it had a cut body .. easier to play on the higher frets... i like the sound of an accoustic with a preamps in it .. u can adjust the EQualizer ;)

with that kind of a budget i'll say avoid the epiphone, simply because epi acoustic have yet to stand out amongst its competitors in its price range, as for the 214 , in that price range there are much better pieces out there giving more bang for the buck. a few to consider in that price bracket would be the alvarez MD series, which i am exrtremely impressed by, tone wise, workmanship as well as playability , or the ayers, as well as the breedloves and timothys offered by sinamex and lastly one of my personal fave in the price range the yamaha ll16! also note these are all full solid guitars in comparison to the above quoted pieces you had in mind which are solid tops at best in exception for the breedloves which only offer solid back and top but IMPRESSIVE nontheless. and you simply have to top up no more then 300 to install quality pickups in the likes of the k&k pure western mini($200) or the lr baggs rts2($300) both highly rated and prices are inclusive of installation , more can be checked out on www.guitar4christ.com where you can find more info from pickups to guitar wood hope this helped :)

I'd take reviews from HC with a pinch of salt. Chances are, most would buy the guitar they already had in mind; i.e., it was something they were looking for to begin with. Do you expect them to give an objective/nasty review otherwise? Likewise, there are those on HC who might've bought the guitar online and gotten one with a bad set-up, and post a nasty review in response to feeling cheated. The thing is, buying guitars is a very subjective matter; i absolutely abhor the CIJ Fender necks, but have to admit that they are decent guitar - is it fair for me to say that they suck? You'll need to try it out for yourself to be able gauge/judge, whichever is the better guitar. At best, we may only give opinions on whether a particular guitar has better specs than another.

Not a big fan of Taylors tone-wise, but I think quality-wise, I'd vouch for the Taylor. I've seen some Epiphones (Hummingbirds, etc) and they didn't look all that well-made... I wouldn't discount Epiphones as a whole though, my experiences don't count for all Epiphones.
