Enquires about Price on changing pickup

Hey guys, recently I think my guitar's pickup is having problem as it have no sound when plugged into amp. I tried my friend's guitar with my cable and amp, and it sound fine. So thus, it's my guitar which is having problems.

Anyway, I wanted to know how much would changing the pickup cost? and which place to change is cheaper. Thanks.

Yeah, it would most probably be an electronics problem. E.g. Loose input jack or a solder come loose.

However, if you do wish to change pickups, most places charge $25 per pickup replaced. As for the pickups themselves, you have to purchase them too. These range from those unbranded Proline ones available for $20 all the way to Dimarzios, going for $300++. Depends on your taste there. =)

Hmm, charges for pickup swapping would be $25-$30, but yours looks like its an electronics problem, what pickups are you using and what is your guitar? We have to see if its passive or active to see if there may be a problem with the preamp as well. If not, it could range from being really simple and cheap (changing of batteries for active) or something really expensive and complicated, (preamp, faulty circuit board etc)..

Btw, when was the last time you played your guitar?

The last time i played guitar was on Thursday night. My guitar is Epiphone Les Paul Special 2, and it's a stock pickup, 700T and 600R.

or maybe I should send it for "check up"? I thought it's the pickup because one of my friends also have the same problem, but he get a new guitar instead of repairing it.

Totally no sound? - check the output jack - maybe wires got loose ........

Yes send it for a checkup, as i've mentioned the above problems, else, just go there for a setup! Your friend probably had a bad circuit board or preamp and it probably wasn't worth repairing his guitar and hence opted for a new one.

hey Rryan,

before rushing to send to guitar tech, send to retailer if your guitar is still under warranty.

saveyour cash for other thing

Why you say its the pickups?it's prolly a loose input jack.

omg seriously everyone blames the pickups. muddy pickups fault, no sound pickups fault, cannot do pinch harmonics pickups fault, cannot shred pickups fault, dunno how to use search function pickups fault.

Hi threadstarter, i'm gonna echo out what most have said. It should be around $25. And you should probably check where the real problem lies instead of jumping to conclusions.

Firstly, you're using an Epiphone LP Special II, right? That's got 2 pickups. Try selecting just one of them. The neck or bridge pickup, either one. If no sound comes out still, it's most probably the input jack. It's unlikely that two pickups are spoilt at the same time unless you spilled water into it or something, which is again, unlikely.

Hope this helps. 8)

eh bro i cant sweep, which pickups you suggest?

The reason why I said is there're problems with my pickup because i doesn't know why my screw "drop" out from my pick up.
My younger cousin brother actually play with my guitar when I'm not at home and accidentally drop it. Jeez :(

I wish to thank you guys for answering my enquires.
Cheers!
