There was an embarrasing occurance at my gig last Friday night.
I was playing with the BDS Orchestra in a rather posh, high end wedding gig at the Four Season's hotel ballroom. Pretty sedate & prim & proper affair with a lott of the "high profile" crowd, ministers, big wigs etc...
The Orchestra was a 15 pc set up including a 4 pc string section (they were seated right behind me) on a rather crampish stage...
Things were pretty uneventful until the last dance set ... as we were playing "Its Not Unusual", I suddenly heard a noise from behind me...apparently the violist closest to me had placed her chair too near the back of the stage and had topled over...she tried desperately to stop falling but couldnt and eventually fell with her violin. It wasnt a very high stage and there was ample carpeting and stuff behind the stage so she wasnt hurt but the funny thing was she yanked on the curtain as she fell and it brought the whole backdrop and curtain down!
The band of course were shocked for an instant but finished the song none the less....The girl wasnt hurt (except for a bruised ego) but the sight of her on the floor with her legs sticking up in the air (she was wearing a short black dress) with the collapsed backdrop & curtains all around the stage was a sight to behold! Worst still - the organizers were filiming the entire event and the dancing crowd were bemused over the whole thing.
Paiseh to the max man.... and felt sorry for her.
