Electric Guitar Lessons & Equipment?

I just read this article:

It seems to suggest that it might be a good idea to learn electric based on my interests.
My other concern is that if I should learn acoustic as a stepping stone to electric. I may end up having to burn quite a bit of $$, having to buy two guitars instead of one.

Yeah, but later on you may have more $ to get a more higher-end electric guitar, I guess. That's what I did anyway... I suggest that if you know any friends with classical/acoustic guitars, you may want to borrow them and take a stab at learning some chords, practice chord-changing and all that, basically get a feel of the guitar itself, as an instrument, before purchasing an electric guitar...
