E.C.Strat

Swee Lee BB stocked the EC Strat previously - I last saw a silverish coloured one going for $3500. If I remember correctly the 'best price' at the time was $3200.

IMHO, for a Strat of that pedigree (sure it's a nice axe) I find the one ply scratchplate extremely cheap and nasty, and in EVERY example I've seen, it is warped and doesn't sit flush with the body, especially around the lower horn.

Rock stars - tsk - there's no accounting for taste....

There's an E.C. Custom Shop Strat at Swee Lee BB. Midnight blue (almost black with sparkly bits), maple fingerboard. Just played it this lunchtime. Neck pickup is really fat and hot - it sounds awesome. Neck finish on upper frets leaves a little to be desired for a guitar with a list price of $6500 (sic). You can get 20% off. With GST you'd be looking at $5460.

Sounds nice enough for me to forgive the ugly warped scratchplate.

It's partially by design - that's how EC likes it. It's because it's a single sheet of white plastic rather than a 3 ply.

he actually wants the strat to look like a 57, that's why the single ply pickguard. usually its warped bcos the pickgurad starts to shrink/expand bcos of the temp/humidity. and moreover its got only 8holes for the screw to hold as opposed to the 11 holes of later pickguards.

original single ply pickguard equipt guitar during those earlier yrs also have got metal plates below the pickguard too. i guess that is for the shielding.

wah echoist, serious ah? plastic also can happen like that one meh?
hahahahhha! yes it does actually. usually after a period of time. i guess a lot of people thought its wood only. personally i've handled a few guitars with pickguards that shrunk. the single ply ones especially. new ones don't have much problm tho. but there is one 70's p-bass with a shrunk pickguard, and its 3ply, and the screws were all tilted inwards because of the shrunk p/guard.

wow! thanks for the info all! sorry took so long to reply. the custom shop is wayyyy out of budget. but as i look at it, guess second hand is my best bet. i understand ec strats come with fender vintage noiseless pups? or lace sensors?
anyways, am intending to check up on price only and no intention to buy right now. a little tight la. but was watching EC dvd the other day and was kinda curious how much his strat was going for here.
strange thing is, i didn't like the single ply pickguard on my 57' RI either and changed it to 3 ply. and an 8 hole pickguard is hard to come by as well, had to import my current one. so guess, must take into consideration this minor factor. but then again, for authenticity, that's why one would buy an ec strat anyways! heh. would be pointless for me to go change an artists strat...heh.
thanks all!

hullabalooeeks, the link don't bring us to the EC strat leh. it's the main page. tried to search but cannot find. what title is it under? how much in yen?

http://www.excite.co.jp/world/engli...er/e_guitar_bass/st54.htm&wb_lp=JAEN&wb_dis=2 ok this works. it has 22 frets... not like those other vintage reissue....

i got a few problems with strat.... Why do they have to put truss rod adjuster at the neck pocket.... Also why do they have to use string trees which makes the tuning go off... Cant they just use staggered tuning heads on all strats??? Why must they insist on the 1ply pickguard which warps when 3 ply does the job so much better...

WHY!!!!

but the strat still rocks and i love the 6 point vintage bridge... hehe

hi echoist / hullabalooeeks, thanks for the quick responds. can i confirm about the EC PUPs? i thought all along EC strat uses fender noiseless?

u r welcome turtle...

no, they were not...

it was 1st released with the Fender Gold Lace Sensors. the pickups were switched to Noiseless only abt a few years back. i can't recall the actual yr.
