Dunlop Crybaby Classic

Sometimes there are reasons why people ask for help.

Don't be too quick to judge if someone is lazy and not willing to seek information by himself.

I attest, I am not local and do not know many instrument shops around.

So if I were to ask, after reading this I assume I would get blasted as well.

If i were to ask a price, I am shopping around and comparing and weighing my options.

If I were to ask at 3am, thats cause I'm confirming with a friend to ship it from overseas after weighing out my options.

I don't have the time to go to shops to check out prices cause I'm at work from 7-6 everyday.

I have also been to other forums where members are open to giving information, is it that difficult to type 2 lines?

I'm not saying that your views are wrong or bad, I'm saying that we should understand that sometimes we don't have the capacity to seek out such answers.

For one, sweelee's website doesn't have crybaby pedals on their online shop.

I had no idea G77 was in singapore, or mrmisse was around.

Until I read forums and asked for help.

I just posted the list of brands and shops, so I should have solved your problem now. Pricing should be addressed to the shop so there's no "why was it this price instead of that" issues.

There's a buy sell forum for your 2nd hand activities also.

And the information travel as been mainly one way for quite some time.

Come on, read the forum down a 10 or 20 pages and see for yourself. There are a lot of examples of near horrible behaviour of forummers, especially like what ShredCow mentioned (and more than once, it's not a one-off). Don't give hypothetical situations. I'm won't discuss whether the behaviour is right or wrong, but I'll be more concerned with whether a problem is persistent and can it be solved.

thor, I still don't see how you have substantiated your claim that having such threads actually hampers the elevation of discussion levels in this forum. Pls elaborate?

As for the supposedly low usage of SOFT, one reason I can think of is that ppl hear abt SOFT, get excited thinking they can come here for any kind of info they want/need, sign up, post their Qs, get lambasted, and don't feel like this is a place they want to hang out at. Not the only reason, but one of them for sure.

As shreddy mentioned, SOFT prob will always be the way it is if the attitude at large is as such. There's no excuse for being lazy and annoying, I agree, but there shouldn't be an excuse for trolling as well.

i agree with lightice. I have the same experience being new to the country. I wouldn't kwno Singapore has this much guitar stores if I didn't ask here. I also don't have time to go to each shop to check, and of course it's cheaper (and more convinient) to ask here than to call.

This is a community forum. When you wanna find something out, won't you go and ask the community of in-the-knows before going on your own?

I agree with kennethC as well, theres no reason for us not to help. These new users may grow and develop to being helpful in the future. When they start knowing where they can find stuff.

I think it all goes around, you help me, I help you, I hear something, I tell you.

The "attitude at large" you mentioned, could be on those who blast people who ask seemingly silly/lazy questions...

And it could be the attitude of the truely lazy.

So... basically we just don't know. No one way will please all.

JonEthan, you gotta note, Thor isn't asking for a total shutdown of "newbie questions". Please re-read his concerns.

Sorry for the inconvinence and sparks caused by me, the reason isn't because i am lazy.
It is because i checked on Sweelee website and i couldn't find a Dunlop Crybaby Classic.
Some may have blasted me with stupidity and lazyness, so im sorry if i made you sweared. However, i would like to thanks people who have helped me in getting the information.
On another note, i am not really good at talking through the phone. Hence, i usually just go into websites to check out their products. Sorry for the late replies to my thread because i am quite busy these few days.

Sorry for the inconvinence caused again!

Don't worry too much about it, you were just asking for help.

The sweelee people are okay, spoke to them a few times.

I understand that and I agree with Thor's observation of the forum. My concern is more towards the earlier negative replies just because someone asked where and how much..

Anyway, about newbie questions.. there's really nothing you can do about it. As long as a forum is open for everyone, some new people will come in and ask silly questions. These newbies will not know the direction with which more serious members want the forum to go towards.. so they will post whatever. And unless someone polices this, there's really nothing you can do. And bashing is not really policing...

My point is, there's very little point in discussing whether one is right or wrong. It's how you solve the problem. Answering straight isn't going to solve a long term issue. Stay long enough, if you will, and try answering and reading every question within your capability, and you will see the macro issue.

For all that's been said and discussed, it makes little once this thread dies out. In another day someone will ask where to get this XXX and how much. I'll just say I've done my insignificant part in trying to restructure the problem, the rest is up to the powers that may be to decide whether I make a good point.

thor, I can't help but reply...so if teaching ppl to fish by telling them how they should find the info isn't the long term solution, then what is?

I put a list of brands/shops up over here already, for instance.

There's also links to various threads on the Guitar Sticky.

I think it should also be mandatory for any newbie to read on a FAQ to know where to find what. Then people who don't read the FAQ, will have their questions culled.

i agree that all members should read the FAQ and the stickies... ideally.

But in reality, if you just want to know where to find a gear and how much, would you go through the several pages of text before asking?

In reality, people start coming here to get the info they need, then when they start getting enough, that's when they learn to appreciate the community and then they start reading the FAQs/stickies and make good worthwhile contributions.

anyway, it's moot point arguing over it now. I'm not saying there's right or wrong, but there's always reality...

Let's face the "reality" elsewhere then. Go to thegearpage.net, go into the gear forum sections, stay there for a while. Judge for yourself if the questions there are of similar nature to the questions here.

I don't know about reality, dilemmas, moral or ethical behaviors, but see a difference and I try to make a difference.

What I see is definitely not what you see. People take and go. Only a few contribute. And I also see that people do read the stickies. It's not ineffective - as evidenced from the read counts.

Let's not make more hypothetical assumptions.

My reality, my personal experience, my music journey, my first foray into electric guitar.

I joined Jemsite.

I read a HECK of a lot.

I searched.

I pm-ed several people.

After all that, when I couldn't get specific answers, I posted.

Thats my reality and I believe in that - my peers went thru that. Noob questions and what not, we at least did some homework.

JonEthan, stick around a while more.

You'll see what we are talking about. Really. No better way to put forth our case.

its funny how juz a simple question can cause such a argument..

i wonder what if a picture is used instead (a picture is worth a thousand words)..
