ds1 mod help

i'm venturing into pedal modding and making, but i'm stuck and have some questions.

referring to this article: http://www.geocities.com/overdrivespider/DS1/keeleyds1.htm

for step4, let's say i dont want to toggle between the ASE and the ultra mod but i just want the ultra mod. it says

"First of all, its worth noting that it is a lot easier to not use a switch and just leave the pedal in either ASE or Ultra modes. If you just want the All seeing eye mod, you will need to remove D5 and replece it with an LED. If you want the Ultra mod, you will need to put a LED in series with D4 as well as changing D5. Difficult to get your head arround, but this diagram should help:

"

does this mean i attach a LED to D5 and also wire a LED to D4? Then where would these LEDs go to? does D5 go to the "check" LED?

thanks if anyone could help.

No, you find D5 on the PCB, remove it, and replace it with the LED.

If you want the ultra mod, find D4, then attach D4 in series with another LED, and replace D5 with LED.

In short, the ultra mod = ASE + 1 extra LED which is in series with D4.

oh so those LEDs wont be on the surface to be lighted up? so if i want a blue led i'll have to change it right?

If you want a blue indicator LED, you'll have to change it assuming its neither D5 or the LED in series with D4.

I don't have the schematic with me so I cannot confirm, but assuming its not the 2 above, you will need to unsolder the on/off LED and install a blue one or whatever colour of your choice.

Edit: After reading the mod page you posted, its rather straightforward. You will need to replace the check LED if you want it to be blue.

If you don't already own a desoldering pump, I suggest you get one. Should be around 2-3 bucks.

If you want the ultra mod, just follow his pic.

To remove 1 leg of D4, you either need someone to hold the board for you, or clip the board on something. It should be vertical.

heat the D4 leg on the component side, place the pump on solder side, then suck.

The solder should come off cleanly. Then bend D4 upwards and attach it to the switch with wire and insulate the whole thing with heatshrink, you don't want anything shorting out.

Heat shrink the LED legs as well. Precaution is always better than future troubleshooting.

Seems like there's a high interest in modding/electronics among Softies. I even have pms sent to me regarding the previous thread I did.

A section or stickied thread for this perhaps?
