I know there was a thread on this before but that was in 04' so yes i did search and i dont think im wasting anyone's time on this. i know they are being sold on ezimusic but do i have any other options. and triggers what do they actually do? are they like different kinds for different sounds? or? thanks in advance guys

In my opinion, the DDrum triggers are really good (both acoustic head and mesh head triggers).

I don't think EZI music brings them in anymore tho.....only the Pintech ones...which are ok, but not as sturdy or hardy....

i'm not really sure if my next qnz will sidetrack from the drum trigger qnz..
and also CC, sorry to invade your thread ah.. but its about nearly the same thing as the thing youre asking about...

i'm wondering if there's any e-pad (alone) that can be fixed up to laptop and say using ableton live to trigger a sound... eg: gong...
something that works along the line of the roland SPD pad....

dt>> plenty of options for what you want..you may want to check out the m-audio trigger finger or the korg padkontrol for starters. they're just midi controllers so you still need your sample sounds on your laptop.

i have owned the trigger finger and it's quite a neat device though i sold it because i couldn't find as much use for it as i'd hoped. the pads are meant for fingers, not sticks though. unless you're a real marksman and can pick out an area roughly 4 keyboard keys square without missing a beat. (:

nope nope..
not trigger finger...

i wan a pad kind of thing where i'll be hitting wif my sticks..
the things is, i'm thinking of puuting my lappy on my left connect it to the e-pad, and e-pad will sound like wat i choose in my prog.. (lappy acting like a module)

soft, thanx, but i was onli thinkging of one rnd e-pad.. not the whole 8 kind of thing lie alesis

i dont know how true is this but i read somewhere that triggers would dampen the sound as well of being able to record the sound right? im just starting to learn about triggers so paiseh eh if i get the wrong idea of triggers.

triggers pick up the vibration and convert it in to sound with amps or something. Like if u hit hard or soft the sound will come out the same...

yo CC, not really sure.. b ut i dont think it dampen...
the main aim of trigger is like wat lepak said..

if you wanna just dampen, there are other much more inexpensive way than to get triggers

depending on the make of the triggers....they all do dampen the skin to different degrees. The triggers sits on the skins so that the vibrations could be picked up. The cheap Pintech ones for example, sits entirely on the skins and thus dampens more than the DDrum ones which has most of its weight resting on the rims.....

You can buy any pad from any brand lah....either get swee lee to order a single roland pad for you or even a pintech pad from Ezi Music. You just need to get a Midi signal convertor to accept signal from the pad and send this signal into your laptop that is running ableton. You either purchase something like Alesis's trigger I/O or any drum module that has midi output. A thing to note...if the module you buy has no firewire port to connect to your laptop directly, then you'll need an external sound card (m-audio has some cheap but good ones such as the firewire 410) with midi-input. So, the chain will be like this:-

pad -- midi module -- soundcard -- laptop (with ableton configured to accept the midi signal and in turn triggering the sound sample you want).

I am using the alesis trigger io... please take note that is has very limited support for piezo / switch triggers... so make sure dun get wrong triggers... btw it's choking also sucks.. it does not support atertouch signals.. :-(
