i don't think you can find jimmy lee's name on the website either, but he's endorsed by pearl too what.

Just bringing some news thats all....

Sqoobs....I've spoken to Arthur from Swee Lee and it is out of goodwill that he is maintaining the prices of whatever is in stock. This is a really nice gesture of him and I for one, appreciates that. The new Pearl drum shipment should arrive in feb or early march...so til then, the current stocks are 2007 stocks...look, he can easily announce the new price tag now but instead, he is going to honour the 2007 prices for whatever is in stock now. I hope you can appreciate this. If we keep twisting everything to be something negative, then how can we get any support from local organisations? It takes 2 hands to clap really.

and thanks for your confidence Kari! http://www.sweelee.com.sg/Artist.htm

Happy New Year to all!!

hey alvin, thanks for the heads up. does this apply to mainly pearl products or will other brands such as tama be affected? btw just a piece of info as well, yamaha prices are not going up... probably because they're already quite high :P

and just something that i'm just wondering... alvin you can choose not to answer if you feel that it isn't appropriate - did the parent company (ie. pearl, tama) increase the retail prices to the retailers, or are the retailers raising prices on their own accord?

In almost any price increased done by a company, on price increased - it's entirely up to the company Swee Lee here (irregardless of whether the Principal Pearl did or did not increase the prices to them) cause there are many other factors involved

Setting a Control-Retail- Pricing by Principal to Distributor worldwide is definetely illegal but just a pricing guidlines (so they leave it to the Distributor themselves on Selling Price & Discount Structures) to come up with their own Pricing Structure for their own market - which is largely derived from their Year 2008 Sales & Profit Objectives.

Hi Bro, Alvin will be put into a tight spot, if he is to answer the question (afterall he is only an endorsee of Pearl) - This is a very very sensitive question put here, I'm sure you all agree to it...... How would you reply to this sort of question if you are Alvin????

Aiyoh, don't put our drumming brother in a difficult position, when all he did was put up a Thread to inform all here of a comming price increase from Swee Lee for 2008 soon.

Kari_convention: - how are you my Bro - not so nice to ask in this manner (your question to Alvin) - it's really " Questioning Someones Here On Their Credibility" ...afterall we all knows Alvin for a long time, don't we - all of us....

hey alvin, how did u get endorsed by pearl? and wat do u get from being endorsed? do u get free drums and hardware? yes/no?

No worries. Its mainly Pearl for what I know. And no, the retailers hate to increase prices really because that just make it harder to sell. It is the factory that announced the increase in prices. In fact, Peace drums had a new price list that was more expensive in 2007 than 2006. And from what I know, Mapex has had a steady increment of 5% per annum. As for Yamaha, if they increase somemore...no one will buy!! They've the most expensive line of mass produce sets here.

this is actually a very well-moderated forum.. i'm glad to see moderators actually doing their job here, unlike other forums, where harsh remarks and unnecessarily insulting comments are left unattended to..

cheers Rudimental!

anyway, endorsement arrangements can be different for artiste to artiste, musician to musician. also, i don't think it's an option for endorsed artistes to openly discuss the terms of their endorsements, in case other endorsed musicians are getting a different deal or something - it could spark off unpleasantries. anyway, in general, we should never discuss our contracts openly. i think weckl-x's post was a very informative one (see above post for link), and should be sufficient for general questions. ha, if a musician chooses not to discuss his endorsement contract, it is a very basic form of respect for the brand that has chosen him.

Happy New Year to All!

Thanks Alvin, I know its not easy to ask you to comment or answer this kind of question... A bit boh bian also lah. Everything's increasing... production costs are increasing too.

And yes, haha if Yamaha increases their price, nobody'd buy them.

Thanks Alvin, for providing the headsup. I guess with the price of oil hitting the roof, everything else going the same way is inevitable :???:

i don't think you can find jimmy lee's name on the website either, but he's endorsed by pearl too what.

Well, from the link provided, http://www.sweelee.com.sg/Artist.htm, it would seem that the artists on that page are Swee Lee Music Company endorsers? If that is the case, that means their deal is between them and SLMC. That might explain why you wouldn't find Jimmy Lee's name on the Pearl website.

Or perhaps instead of contacting Pearl USA directly, they went through SLMC instead? Or maybe SLMC approached them, and hooked them up to the respective companies?

My conjecture is based on what is stated on Addy's page:

"In 2007, Addy had joined Swee Lee Music Company as an endorser"
http://www.sweelee.com.sg/Artist_Addy2.htm

Do note that this is not an attempt to to discredit these guys' achievements as splendid musicians and people. I've got the utmost respect for them, for what they've done for the local music scene (and beyond) is way more than what I can ever hope to contribute.

The above is just inference on my part, at some attempt to answer Kari's question. This in no way represents the truth. Please feel free to correct any inaccuracies.

Anyway, this is definitely off-topic, so as not to detract from this thread, those interested can start a new thread.

Welcome to 2008, where prices are set to rise in every area!
