Dress code crackdown at...

Imagine UNI students wearing Uniforms. That'd be quite funny. A early 20s guy wearing unifrom, badge, tucked in, tie, long pants, with piercings and tattoos.

Alternatively they could make the uniforms like the way Angus Young dresses for guys :)

Retro man :D

'Students who are here genuinely to study may be put off or influenced by that......'

Gee, i always thought girls in hot pants and tank tops are the things that make me wanna come to school (no pun intended).

Its the boring monotonous lecturers that put me off.

Cant even begin to imagine the hairy legs on show! ROFL.

The whole article is pretty much trying to restrict students from putting on outrageous outfits when coming to school. I think it is pretty much logical. If school don't impose any form of restriction, students will go wild. While this sort of restriction may be perceived as school trying to be control freaks, why don't evaluate upon yourself and the way you dress up?

I believe there is a time and season for any kind of dress sense. You don't wear shorts and slippers to clubs or special functions because it is against the dress code. You don't wear colourful tee shirts and jeans to somebody's funeral because it is against the dress code. You don't wear tuxedo and blazers/shirts to a beach party because it is against the dress code.

So I guess that should sum up why schools are going a little harsh on students in terms of their dress code.

Indulge me a little, but do you think Donald Trump will be pleased to see his employees coming into work in swimsuits or pyjamas or halloween costumes per se or heavily spammed with tattoes like them R'n'B artistes and those blings blings? Food for thoughts.

^ well the school are control freaks, I mean, these people are old enough to decide for themselves what they want to dress like. I for one, am so damn sick of being told what to do by school authorities, and the fact that the whole damn world now knows about how shit works in this country, makes me bloody embarrassed to tell people I'm (hopefully soon to become WAS) Singaporean.

Hydrofly, you got to tame your attitude if not, you will get into a lot of trouble when you enter NS.

aye aye James I know! I've prepared a special dual personality for NS. Feigned obedience, get to know people on top, manipulate from there, I'll let you meet him if I go down to the soft chalet... Still have A levels so might not go down, grmbl. Besides, I only need to endure for 2 years before I move out! What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, then I can serve my country better!

I'm big on self-expression and personal freedom, but I don't think this is a big deal.

You still have the opportunity to dress how you wish within the guidelines. At the end of the day, be presentable!

visa sums up everything :)

dress code is one thing lah, and it's not unreasonable for one to exist. but rules are only effective if they can be ENFORCED... just like how the law is only useful if there are police and judges.

according to the article SMU and SIM have no dress codes... but i'm pretty sure that the dress code in other institutions (the unis at least) is not really enforced, and they are pretty sensible and reasonable about it.

i'm sure MDIS are taking a hardline stance for a REASON, and the reason has to be because there is some kind of PROBLEM on campus, somehow related to the dress code.

but omg, it's not like some major violation of human rights, it's not worth the effort to get worked up about it, just finish your 3-4 years and then get lost!

and on a side note, DONT WE HAVE ANY REAL NEWS?

and about NS, just follow the flow, don't be extra wayang, extra keng, extra kilat, or you may find yourself with many many extra. you may not like The Man, but your peers will need you and you will need them. it's not just about you, or The Man, but also your buddies. if you absolutely hate the establishment, at least do it for the ordinary people who are also involved.

no big deal. if they were issued uniforms, it'll be like them JC girls. tucking/folding the normal-length skirts into mini-skirts. you can't fight teenage rebellion.

Its not like MDIS is a good institution to study at anyway. NUS/NTU or elsewhere ftw! I guess they're just preparing you guys for the days when you start working proper.

i got some rage against singapore girls

singaporeans no class, zero sense of fashion. especially the girls. sg girls don't dress up, they either dress down or under-dress. what you end up with is the skanky bugis junction ahlian, supposedly inspired by but nowhere near the tw xmm. let us not even dare speak about shibuya girls. and then always got the excuse "i'm usually dressy but today was hot / i wanted to be comfortable"

and then they start working, LL got to wear business attire, but with no class or style to pull it off. then it's off to either to the dating agencies or st. james power station. maybe the cmi girls go for angmohs with bad taste, the cmi guys go for money sucking china girls

that is 100% correct.

they really dont know how to look decent at all. but then, when its time for clubbing, they overdo it.
