lol,
u know like how the have verfication numbers before making accounts to make sure the person is not a robot?

we should have like iq tests before posting threads to make sure they are not retards

How about this thread? Useful or not?

Visa is an active user on SOFT since 2005. With 2500+ posts and 62 Rep points. He must have a reason for starting this thread.

Visa, what is the purpose of this thread? Must be something important that you want to voice out.

this thread perhaps was intended to be useful, by seeing if people actually bothered thinking before starting new threads.

actually i think Visa wanted to point out all the useless threads that have been started that have sucked up much bandwidth and wasted a lot of people's time simply cos people refuse to see if the topic has been discussed before or refuse to use the most popular web-tool around - www.google.com

but then again, if that person is seeking an answer and finds a year-old thread and then replies to that thread, he could very well be accused as a thread-digger (which isnt a very nice thing either).

in the end, the person faces a dilemma about whether to start a thread, or dig up an old thread. the most common reaction is therefore to start a thread even though the topic has already been discussed, since its the most convenient solution.

of course, if one starts a thread on an already over-discussed topic, then it definitely shows his laziness/lack of intelligence/both, whichever applies.

thread starting is not ONLY about intelligence of the threadstarter, but rather involves lots of other factors: laziness, whether he is considerate, etc. but one also has to take note about the different scenarios.

Whether the thread shows intelligence or not is perfectly subjective (although I do agree that some of the threads inspire WTF moments).

To me though, if such a thread annoys you, do what some members in the forum do: IGNORE IT.

Not trying to carry balls, I think the most respected members in Soft for me are the ones who have sub-1k posts but whose posts are choked with information eg Embryo. Cos among the "senior members" with above 2k posts, there's bound to be some threads they started that people can deem as "stupid" as well eg the "I like a girl" thread (no offence, Visa. That's just my opinion :))

A simple "Sorry for reviving old thread" isn't that hard to add into the reply, no?

LOL. I vote for potatos.

Yes somebody call a potato?

Hmm i tink threads needs the brain involved, accordingly some people dont use it as much as necessary as it is, based on the funny stuff i see on soft and other forums.

Alot like to be spoon fed. I genuinely feel threads should be started if one really has a inquiry and is unable to find it on the web, or wants to share something interesting etc..or needs help with gear yea..
