Hey ppl, jus curious to know if material and shape (c,d shape) of the fretboard actually affect the guitars tone or not, if such a topic has came out before i do apologise, but if u hav any link regarding this matter pls post it thanks.

im also very curious in particluar about the difference between rosewood and ebony fretboards. how do they differ? (more eager to know the answer for this question)

thanks you ppl

Do a search on Warmoth website, John Suhr's website... usacustomguitars website....

They explain quite a bit.

Oh, yes, the fretboard affects.

when pple talk abt a c shape or d or v shape neck they are not referring to the fretboard but rather to the shape of the back of the neck. the front would be referred to as the radius.

well to ans ur question of course there will be a difference. but its whether u are so picky and sensitive that u can tell the difference cos certain neck shapes r just beefier and have more wood thus would affect the tone one way or another.

yea sry my mistake, about the shape of the neck thing.

buut in terms of material of the fretboard, is there a signifcant difference between rosewood and ebony? lets say u compare rosewood and ebony fretboards on identical shaped necks, will the playability and tone be significantly different, if yes, how?

i beg to differ cos ebony in my opinion gives a bright sound too. tried a gibson studio with the ebony board, seems to have so much more spike on the brights and more sizzle when u pick hard.

Says who?

My Gibson Les Paul Custom Ebony sounds shriller than a so-called single coil guitar when I use it on a Fender Twin Reverb Silverface. How ar?

ebony doe not share similar tonal properties with rosewood- a common assumption is that they do.

fretboard wood allegedly does contribute to tone, but some of us fail to hear the difference. i find the maple units do give off a slightly brighter tone, more so in the neck pickup position.

for me maple necks not so bright...its a bit rounded compared to ebony..which to me sounded like a scoop mid kinda tone..

although i might be wrong ...as it could be the pu installed...

defret the guitar and all the whatever fretboard wood sound will come out , just fingers, strings and fretboard and of course, the pickup a big factor too
