Do you get a kick from selling faulty instruments to fellow musicians?

I'm sure some of us here has had some bad experiences with buying faulty instruments (generally) from dishonest sellers. Let me clarify the term "Dishonest" to avoid any misunderstanding...In this thread, the term "Dishonest" is used on people who actually know it's crap they are selling, but instead of selling it as "scraps" (yes, there are buyers who are really keen on buying faulty stuff for mods or projects etc so, technically speaking, YOU can still sell your stuff to the RIGHT people with a clear conscience..Duh!!), they falsely advertise their goods as "new, or in perfect working condition" etc.

What I'm curious about is, do these sellers actually get a kick out of the con or is it the thrill of wasting people's time by making them go back and forth with the exchange(if the dishonest chap is, ironically, honest enough to do the exchange) ? Or.....

My take is, it's probably the rush... Eg. Adolescent Shoplifters..

Call me crazy for trying to "honest the dishonest" by asking these REAL dimwits* to own up on this thread, but really, all I wish to be enlightened by these people's* psyche.

Cheers and Have a good day.

J

I did get a kick out of wasting a minute of my time reading this post. I just...can't explain the....thrill I got....from it. Tingling.

I have never encountered any, mainly because I know how to check my stuff before buying and because i don't buy from idiots.

^ Lolwut? Hey look that guy has nice gear, let's all sell him spoilt guitars, cause he doesn't need to complain about them! Be less stupid.

"it was perfect/working/new when I checked it and before I sold it to you. My condolences.Better luck next time."

Usually I do not provide any form of warranty because who knows if I sold my item working and he screws it up and demands refund. I lose an entire item for nothing without any cashback. that's why my practise is to try maintain a "positive reputation" and tell buyers if you don't want to buy, someone else will, if no one buys, it will be put to use (e.g. rented) out for recording purposes. I don't gain if I "rip" you off, I still gain if you don't buy. If you don't buy with confidence (from someone reliable) , then it's better off you buy 1st hand. but then again there's been cases where brand new items turn faulty as well. so it's a matter of local warranty.

Buying 2nd had guitars, normally I dont expect them to be 100% working all the time. hard to predict if the guitar being a used one will break in a few weeks or not. non the less buying a guitar is not like buying any other merchandise, where you buy them and when they are faulty it is already useless, guitars are different, when they are faulty just find a good luthier and have them fix it for 50-60$ after that they will work wonderfully for years and years.

Amen to this post.

I myself purposely state that no refunds will be issued on my threads. This is due to some very unpleasant experiences.

And yes rep DOES play an issue when it comes to buy and sell.

"it was perfect/working/new when I checked it and before I sold it to you. My condolences.Better luck next time." <-- in case anyone didn't realise...

this line is used by
1) honest seller>dishonest buyer
2) dishonest seller>naive buyer
3) honest seller>honest buyer but shit happens.

Appreciate some of the constructive comments and thoughts :)

The item in question here is a discontinued old pedal...I've used it a long time ago, sold it, regretted letting it go, chanced upon it again and was "fortunate" to find another one back.

It's not about the cash, cuz it's relatively inexpensive...As I've mentioned in my first post, I'm just quite baffled by the psychological mindframe behind these anti-social individuals.

Anyway, let's move on, shall we? Got a pedal to fix :)

Cheers.

"it was perfect/working/new when I checked it and before I sold it to you. My condolences.Better luck next time." - brilliant!!!!!!!

this is just the risk you have to bear. obviously i dont go ripping people off, but i am willing to do whatever i can to make sure the thing is working when i sell stuff.

as a buyer, there will always be risks so we just do our best to minimise them.

i would be more concerned by sellers who don't play by the 'rules'. i recently agreed to a deal with some guy on soft. he delayed the deal, then later the deal suddenly became a bid. not only did the deal get broken, but i didnt want to bid where there was no transparency. i didn't want to bid against some 'phantom' bidder and dont even know how and when the bidding will end.

i kena aeroplane 3 times. twice was when the guy contact me, say want to buy, then disappear. those were not so bad cos my policy is, you only let me know when you want to do the deal, you pay the money, i deliver the goods. don't bother me with 'reserve' and shit. the other time, time and location were confirmed but the guy was disappeared and was uncontactable, but later on found it in the kindness of his heart to cook some grandmother story for me.

for me, i think the term "dishonest" means that the seller, lied to you abt the condition of the product. or just dont tell the truth or did not tell you if there is any add. problems to the things he/she is selling.

bt that is just me, idk wad other people think

Dude i cant agree more man. my fender tele also "aeropane" by three buyers. lucky i found an honest buyer. he deposited $800 man. Left the $100 he havent pay me yet. but i still keep for him. Respect his trust in me man.
that time location confirmed also, some guy say he still at home..then say dont want already. lucky my mrt fare was student price:) hehe.
