hey there brothers and sisters, fellow drummers....
i was wondering, after we all met at the first ever drum gathering,i am pleased
to know that there are many fellow drummers who DIY their drum stuffs..
eg, drum_hobbyist who made a pair of safari hats from a regular pair of paiste
101 and the 14''wuhan china with the bolts&nuts..

I'm sure there are many of us that DIY our sets from cymbals to kits etc..
so...why not share and post your ideas,inventions.....here...
share the joy!!!
cheers

to start it off...ill post some pics of my diy version of the flexi glide double pedal...
i've always been amused by belt and direct drive dp(double pedals)
but don't have the budget to get one....so...i've desided to diy my own carlos dp and transform it from crappy to workable condition.....
this includes, changing the springs, the tension rod with the bolt&nut and of course.......the chain...
so i bought a pair of TAMA pedal springs,a pair of gibraltar tension rods and took a roll of nylon belt from my dad..

and here is the end result....although i'm still looking for 2 pairs of Allen screws
measuring 2.5mm in diameter...

here are some pics of my finished project

dammit thats awesome!!!! wat kind of material did u use for the belt?

okie i was recording in sch the other day and the engineer placed my floor tom legs on cut in half food cans with foam inside.
the toms sounded really huge and full after.

yo dude....thats a cool way also man....in me old school....we put foam inside
the floor tom!!
as for the belt....if i'm not mistaken....its made from the same material
that is found on our regular bags....but its thinner and thicker....i used 3 layers stacked together....

hey man u gotta tell me how to do that man....

and is there other colors to it???

my kit was actually spray painted on the outside... spray painting is not satin spray amirite???

my kit looks ugly.. thought of doing wraps but i think spraying sounds easier...

basically, i removed the hardware and the wrap (which is joint with a little glue at overlapping section)
you've got to be very careful if not you may actually rip a little of the wood joint by glue
if needed, use a hair-dryer/heat gun to loosen the glue, but of cos, you may not want extreme heat contact with your shell

next i fine-sanded the shell to remove any form of fine debris/shavings or glue, very lightly, so that i have a very smooth surface to work with

i went to DIY shop and got the natural satin finish, the smallest bottle (remember to get WATER base, not oil base)
Homefix have very limited colours as their target audience are basically home makers wanting to do up cupboards or doors...

i use a cloth and dap/wipe the finish on along the grains, (like polishing boots but in one direction)
watch out not to get it on your BEARING EDGE
let it dry
then lightly sand it smooth again

i repeated this for 7 layers..
if u want a thicker protection, you may do more layers...
took me about 2 days..

in the end it looks very much like gloss finish... and personally for me, it looks natural, and the finish offers sufficient protection against accidental spills etc...

i noticed tt aft u did ur RT staining, ur room looks more decent too XD and ya e photo quality is better XD

Smil... hope you guys begin to appreciate the quest for cymbal sounds... maybe can bring to TL clinic and let him try... he may endorse it... 8)
