Distortion pedal for metal songs

I think so too. So budget constrains for some people here.

I believe the tubeman would be a perfect all-rounder tones for clean, bluesy to heavy rock or metal. Just add a SD1 after it to boost.

sometimes. Not all stock pedals are bad. In the above post, Im referring to a modded SD1 with the mid hump taken.

meaning- i don't buy 8-)

the reason why i own a single channel offering like Blackheart's Killer Ant, is to keep my tone options open; if i get sick of the straight-through connection, i have some pedals to mess with.

i see then for ur JVM410H u probably wont even use pedals right? at most something to give it abit more balls

The "chugs" are not the result of high gain, but a decrease of the higher middle frequencies. 800Hz to 1kHz, -6dB to -12dB, 2 Octaves. I could chop up a heavy tone even with the weak overdrive most combo amps provide.

Those amps that have a mid freq selector, turn it all the way up and turn the mid level knob all the way down. And yeah, if the amp comes with good drive give it a humble 2 o' clock so you can actually differentiate between different notes in a chord amidst the heaviness.

Playing live, though, is very different. Mids need to be brought up a lot as they form the fundamental concentration of frequencies that we are most sensitive to. That is why some Metal bands sound like shit on stage.

thats very true. thats why when u scoop ur tones even during jamming u will naturally get drowned out by ur bandmates. so avoid them at all cost no matter how shiok they sound.

our ears are most sensitive to mid frequencies, so boost them if u want to be heard

It depends la....sometimes its better to blend into the mix rather than stick out like a sore thumb.... it can help too if you just keep the eq response flat, than bring up the mids for a solo...depends on what context you are talking about.
