Distortion or Overdrive

Hi all,

Wats the diff between a distortion and overdrive and is it possible to get a distortion pedal if my amp dosent have distortion?

um, distortion has as sort of heavier CHUGGA CHUGGA tone. overdrive has a sort of milder tone. and yes you can get a pedal, you dont need to ask for permission lol.. but most electric amps have built-in distortion

it is possible for you to get distortion. most amps come with overdrive function.

im using a Marshall MG15DFX amp and it only has an overdrive function so its possible to get a distortion pedal? and im not sure weather i can use pedals for my amp anot

Different characters , google it and why not , just go to any shop and get a dirt pedal .

nothing is impossible... it's your choice. any amps can be used with pedals but not all are suitable..

u know the switch that u press to on/off ur drive on ur amp?

a footswitch basically allows u to use ur foot to turn the swtich on rather than having to use ur fingers and press the button on the amp.

a pedal is a totally different thing. well, sorry, i'm lazy to explain. :mrgreen:

change your channel to the clean one and bypass your distortion pedal.

a footswitch allows you to change the settings of your amp i think. while a pedal will change or enhance the sounds of your guitar like for example, a distortion pedal will allow you get the rock to heavy metal sound. okay i dont really know how to explain LOL.

whats a crunchbox? and those amps that have built-in distortion just have to use a footswitch to switch between clean and distortion?

u dun need to use a footswitch to change between clean and dist..u can do it manually wad...

you can change the amp settings on the knobs and such on your amp. You don;t necessarily need a footswitch unless you are playing gigs or something. Crunchbox is a distortion pedal. ;D
